Vice President of Operations- Commercial & Industrial HVAC/R & Plumbing Construction - Michigan Gryphon Oakwood are currently working on a Vice President of Operations to lead and optimize all aspects of ground up construction and retrofits. For a leading mechanical contractor based across Michigan with offices in Grand Rapids and Detroit. They have a strong reputation in HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration for commercial facilities (Healthcare, Automotive and High-Tech Manufacturing facilities). Key Responsibilities • Provide executive leadership for all operational functions across ground-up construction and retrofit projects statewide. • Oversee performance of HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration business units, ensuring consistent delivery on safety, quality, schedule, and profitability. • Establish and standardize operational processes, project controls, and best practices across Grand Rapids, Detroit, and field operations. • Lead project execution strategy, including resource planning, staffing, procurement, scheduling, and risk management. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, margin expansion, and customer satisfaction. • Develop, mentor, and retain high-performing operational leaders and project teams. • Partner with the executive team on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and market expansion within healthcare, automotive, and high-tech manufacturing sectors. • Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, labor requirements, and company policies. Qualifications • 15+ years of experience in mechanical contracting or construction operations, including senior leadership roles. • Proven track record leading large-scale commercial, healthcare, automotive, or industrial construction programs. • Deep technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration systems. • Demonstrated success scaling multi-location operations and improving operational performance and profitability. • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and project cost controls. • Exceptional leadership, communication, and change management skills. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; advanced degree a plus.
