Director of Operations - Commercial & Mechanical Construction - North Carolina Gryphon Oakwood is currently partnering with a $1B+ mechanical contractor to recruit a Director of Operations to lead and optimize operations across multiple large-scale, ground-up construction projects. With offices across North Carolina, this firm has a stellar reputation in HVAC/R, plumbing, and piping for complex Commercial and Industrial facilities, including Data Centers, Life Sciences, and Manufacturing environments. This role will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, project performance, and strategic growth across the organization. Key Responsibilities • Lead and optimize operations across multiple large-scale, ground-up mechanical construction projects. • Oversee project execution, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and profitability targets are met. • Drive standardization, process improvement, and operational efficiency across all business units. • Partner with preconstruction, estimating, and business development teams to support growth. • Manage and develop project leadership teams (PMs, Superintendents, Operations Managers). • Build strong client relationships and ensure consistent delivery excellence. • Implement best practices in risk management, compliance, and workforce planning. Key Qualifications • 12+ years of experience in mechanical construction operations (HVAC/R, plumbing, piping). • Proven leadership managing large-scale, ground-up commercial/industrial projects. • Strong background in data centers, life sciences, or manufacturing environments. • Demonstrated success in improving operational performance, margins, and scalability. • Exceptional leadership, communication, and client-facing skills. • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
