Experience in program or event management, strong organizational and project management skills, public speaking and partnership building abilities, social media proficiency, and willingness to work evenings/weekends; cycling experience preferred.
About the Role The Alkek Velodrome is a cornerstone of Houston’s cycling community — a hub for ALL cyclists, volunteers, and fans of track racing. We’re looking for a dynamic, community-driven Program Director to lead operations, elevate events, expand our outreach, and grow the sport we love. This isn’t a desk job. You’ll be on the velodrome, leading our community events in person, promoting online, and in front of partners — building relationships, managing programs, supporting our junior and women’s programs, and shaping the future of the Alkek Velodrome. The Alkek Velodrome is operated by the 501c3 Greater Houston Cycling Foundation and you would report directly to the Board of directors. What You’ll Do Leadership & Facility/Equipment Oversight Serve as the primary operational lead for the Alkek Velodrome including: • Protect the organization from a liability standpoint (Insurance, Waivers and compliance with them). • Ensure compliance with all City of Houston use agreement, USAC and insurance requirements. • Manage rental fleet inventory, storage, maintenance, and safety checks. • Coordinate facility improvements and explore infrastructure enhancements. Event & Program Management • Oversee track operations, from weekly racing to special events. • * Plan and execute innovative programming, including: • New rider clinics • Racing calendar • Training opportunities Community Engagement & Partnerships • Maintain relationships with current sponsors and identify new partnership opportunities. • Build rapport with HPARD, local bike shops, businesses, and the Houston cycling community. • Promote volunteer opportunities. • Maintain website content to include race. calendars, results, standings, resources, and sponsor promotions. What You Bring • Experience in program or event management (sports, recreation, or nonprofit preferred). • Strong organizational and project management skills. • Comfort with public speaking, stakeholder engagement, and partnership building. • Proficiency in social media management and digital marketing. • Willingness to work evenings and weekends during the racing season. • Ideally have Cycling racing/coaching/officiating experience, or prior involvement in Track or other cycling events.
