Full Description

Master Black Belt, Lean Six Sigma (Continuous Improvement Coach) Join a Sacramento-based team as a Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma. You will co-lead an intensive, enterprise-wide problem-solving program by teaching Lean Six Sigma methodologies and coaching project teams. This role involves instructing new Green Belts and Black Belts, guiding real-world process improvement projects, and developing training content (videos, guides, templates, etc.) to build continuous improvement capabilities across the organization. The position reports to a senior Lean Master Black Belt and requires travel to Sacramento for regular in-person collaboration. Key Responsibilities • Teach & Co-Facilitate Training: Lead and co-instruct multi-day Lean Six Sigma training cohorts (master’s level), covering DMAIC problem solving, value stream mapping, statistical analysis, and other Lean tools. Alternate between classroom instruction and hands-on workshops. • Mentor & Coach Trainees: Provide one-on-one and group coaching to Lean Six Sigma trainees (Green Belts/Black Belts), answer technical questions (e.g. hypothesis testing, p-value interpretation), and offer “office hours” support outside class. Help trainees apply the 8-step problem-solving process in real projects. • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the Senior Master Black Belt to enhance the training program. Develop and refine course materials, including instructor guides, Lean tutorial videos (e.g. how to create Pareto charts), case studies, and reference documents to ensure a consistent, high-quality learning experience. • Continuous Improvement Projects: Lead or assist improvement projects and Kaizen events. Apply advanced Lean Six Sigma techniques (value stream mapping, 5S, root-cause analysis, etc.) to identify inefficiencies and drive measurable improvements. Analyze data using statistical tools (ANOVA, regression, DOE) and validate results. • Program Expansion: Help scale the certified problem-solving program by training more participants. Work on embedding Six Sigma attributes and visual management tools into daily operations. Act as a subject-matter expert to senior leadership on process improvement initiatives. Qualifications • Experience: Minimum 10 years of hands-on Lean Six Sigma experience leading improvement projects. Proven track record of delivering tangible results (cost savings, cycle-time reduction, quality gains, etc.) in diverse industries (manufacturing, utilities, services, etc.). • Certifications: Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (or equivalent); Lean Six Sigma Black Belt required. Experience teaching or consulting on Lean Six Sigma methodologies. • Training & Teaching Skills: Demonstrated success as an instructor or coach. Experience developing and delivering training modules or workshops to adult learners. Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for varied audiences. • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools, including value stream mapping, Kaizen, 5S, hypothesis testing, control charts, and regression analysis. Proficient with statistical software (e.g., Minitab, JMP, or similar) and data-driven problem solving. • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication and facilitation skills. Proven ability to mentor and influence cross-functional teams. Comfortable working with a mix of new trainees and experienced leaders. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, Business, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred). • Logistics: Based in or near Sacramento, CA. Ability to be on-site in Sacramento approximately once per week for training activities and collaboration. Employment Details • Position Type: 9-month contract (Contract-to-Hire, full-time) • Compensation: $180,000 – $225,000 per year (DOE) • Schedule: Flexible hours to accommodate training schedules (typically 3–5 full days of training per week on alternating weeks). • Start Date: As soon as possible. This Master Black Belt role is ideal for a seasoned Lean Six Sigma professional who thrives in a teaching and coaching capacity, with a passion for developing others and driving continuous improvement at scale.
