Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source powerhouse. There are more than 20M users of Grafana, the open source visualization tool, around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a NASA launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps more than 3,000 companies -- including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay -- manage their observability strategies with the Grafana LGTM Stack, which can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud or self-managed with the Grafana Enterprise Stack, both featuring scalable metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki), and traces (Grafana Tempo). We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do. You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity. This is a remote opportunity and we would be interested in applicants from the USA time zones only at this time. The Opportunity: What is Grafana Cloud? Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack. The Databases department owns and operates the telemetry databases that are Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles. We offer our databases as a Cloud service supporting Grafana Cloud, and additionally as on-premise solutions with Grafana Enterprise Metrics, Grafana Enterprise Logs, and Grafana Enterprise Traces. Adaptive Telemetry Group The Adaptive Telemetry group, part of the Databases department, has the mission of ensuring that all telemetry stored in our databases is worthy of attention. Under that mission, the group is responsible for the development of Adaptive Metrics, Adaptive Logs, Adaptive Traces and Adaptive Profiles. Our Adaptive Telemetry solutions give users the ability to control and optimize their telemetry data. These solutions ensure that data storage is optimized based on individual usage patterns, so only the most valuable data is retained. Each Adaptive Telemetry solution comes with a Grafana plugin that allows for manual adjustments to the solution’s behavior or the acceptance of system-generated recommendations. Our Grafana plugins are Typescript applications developed with React and tested with Jest and Playwright. As a Staff Frontend Engineer, you’ll contribute across multiple work streams and play a key role in shaping both the product and the team’s technical direction. You’ll collaborate closely with other frontend and backend engineers, providing guidance and technical leadership on larger projects, and helping to foster a positive, collaborative team culture. You’ll also write and review pull requests and design documents as part of continuously improving and refining the existing user interface. As a company we are remote-first and global, we embrace people of different experiences and backgrounds to build diverse teams where every person brings a new perspective to the software. What You’ll Be Doing: Take an active role in influencing our roadmap and your own career objectives. Work with your team to deliver new features, then use the results to iterate and improve. Lead and manage projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from the initial ideation and planning stages, through development and execution, to final delivery. Contribute to other projects that may not directly fall within your team’s scope. Mentor and support other team members, participate in design discussions and collaborate with the team. Contribute actively to a positive team culture, fostering collaboration, psychological safety, and mutual respect. Learn new skills by gaining a deeper understanding of our cloud product and our customers. As we are remote-first and our engineering organization is largely remote, we provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, so an independent and autonomous attitude and good communication skills are a must. What Makes You a Great Fit: You are a motivated self starter with a bias towards action. You are customer focused. We build everything with our users in mind. You have a passion for creating intuitive products that fit customers’ needs. Pragmatism: You are able to take on complex challenges and break them down to achieve short feedback loops: to analyze, design, and build modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather data and feedback and then progress iteratively. Collaboration and communication: The smallest unit we have is a squad. You’ll be working with your teammates in a fully remote setup. Good communication skills are a must. Leadership: You have experience guiding and supporting other engineers, leading initiatives or small teams, and driving projects to successful outcomes through collaboration. Solid experience working with web applications ideally developed with React. Solid experience unit and end to end testing your code ideally with Jest and Playwright. Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software that is easily maintained by others. Bonus Points For: Experience working with TanStack and Playwright. Experience developing Grafana plugins. Experience working with some traditionally backend programming languages like Go. Been a user of Grafana and/or other observability related applications at a previous employer or just using these tools on hobby/homelab projects. Compensation & Rewards: In the United States, the Base compensation range for this role is USD 168,256 - USD 201,907. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed in the interview process. Benefits include equity, bonus (if applicable) and other benefits listed here. All of our roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), giving every team member ownership in Grafana Labs' success. We believe in shared outcomes—RSUs help us stay aligned and invested as we scale globally. *Compensation ranges are country specific.
