JOB DESCRIPTION Status: Part Time (15-20hrs per week) Hours: Approximately 15-20 hrs. per week. Exceptions may happen for events overnight, such as lock-ins,, mission trips, etc. Compensation: $25,000 - $36,000 per year (hourly position) Benefits: Lay Pension Website: www.gracehinsdale.org General Purpose of Position: To build up young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to Sunday School and youth/family ministry, in the areas of group/team building, discipleship, mission, and outreach, while serving as a spiritual leader and a role model. Organizational Relationship and Supervision: This position reports to the Rector/Sr. Pastor for spiritual and ministry guidance. An annual performance review will be provided by the Rector. A Priest Assistant may be assigned to work directly with and oversee the The Director Youth and Family Ministry to ensure the ministry is effective and transformative for our youth and families. This position will be responsible and subject to The Episcopal Church polity and doctrine, local church policy as determined by the Rector, and ensure that the program is compliant with the Safe Guarding God’s People. Attendance at the weekly staff meetings is required, as is attendance on Sunday mornings for the Sunday School, Youth Group, and other youth programs. Occasional time away on Sundays may be discussed and prearranged with the Rector. Paid time off is 2 weeks per year, as well as the weekdays of Monday-Saturday following Christmas and Easter. The Primary Task: - Provide a God-centered, safe and fun environment and programs for children and families, within the church, community and Diocesan levels. - Encourage youth and families in developing their relationship with Christ. - Provide youth and families with opportunities for spiritual nurture and growth. - Challenge youth and families to respond to God’s call to love and serve their neighbors in the community and the world. Responsibilities: • Be prayerful for and with the youth and families at Grace Church, have a heart for Jesus and a passion for sharing the Gospel. • Coordinate Sunday school curriculum for youth, and recruit teachers and volunteers. • Plan, develop, and implement a balanced youth ministry program in the areas of team building, discipleship, mission, and outreach for middle and high school youth. • Recruit and train volunteers to assist in working with the youth and their families. • Ensure that background checks, as well as Safe Guarding God’s People, First Aid/CPR/AED training is observed in all youth ministry settings. • Assist with marketing and advertising ideas and plans for youth and family activities both inside and outside the church. • Communicate in a timely manner, and as effectively as possible, using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.). Ensure good communication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole. • Assist in the fundraising and budgeting of the program, and ensure use of funds are approved by the Rector prior to spending. • Keep records of youth participation in Sunday school, youth activities and outings. • Work to effectively reach youth and families in the community. • Be an advocate for the youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of the youth at Grace Church and in the community. • Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to youth and family ministries. • When requested and/or in coordination with the Rector and/or Priest Assistant, make yourself available to the youth in a variety of ways (i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.). • Assist in coordinating Confirmation classes if/when requested by the Rector, and provide leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom. • Developing and coordinating youth pageants at Christmas, Easter, etc. • Other duties as assigned by the Rector. Qualifications and Aptitudes: • Must embrace Christian discipline, and the doctrine and theology of the church, with the understanding that the Rector is the overseer of preaching, teaching and worship. Any questions or concerns around teaching, faith, discipline, doctrine, etc. should be discussed with the Rector prior to leadings classes, discussions, etc. • A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in a related field, is preferred, not required. • Have a vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth and family ministry program. • Have excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills. • Possess a proven ability to work effectively with youth and young people, with a diversity of individuals, with teams of volunteers, and be able to work both independently and in group settings.
