Job Description As a Hauling Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily functions of our hauling division, ensuring that activities run with efficiency, safety, and consistency. This role requires the Hauling Operations Manager to establish clear goals for each team member and the department as a whole. Regularly crafting, utilizing, and refining standard operating procedures is essential to meet these goals. A Hauling Operations Manager must possess strong leadership qualities, with an emphasis on coaching and mentoring to ensure the division's staff excels. • HOURS OF WORK: 5:45am until route completion • REPORTS TO: General Manager or COO JOB REQUIREMENTS & KNOWLEDGE: • Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and other state and federal regulations. • Understanding of local roads and highways. • Deep insight into the trash and recycling industry. SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Proficiency in software tools including MS Office products, Kronos, and database software. • Analytical abilities to organize and interpret data for optimal solutions. • Effective dispute resolution skills. • Knowledge of employee labor laws. • Professional communication skills. • Capability as a Hauling Operations Manager to foster a customer service orientation within the department. • Leadership skills, particularly leading by example. • Resilience to work under challenging conditions, including exposure to waste products and adverse weather. • Holding a current Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with an air-brake endorsement is advantageous or the ability to obtain one within six months of the hiring date. EXPERIENCE: • Minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience. • At least 4 years of experience in hauling operations or a related field. EDUCATION: • A required Associate’s degree in a related field. • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in recycling production or high-speed manufacturing is preferred. JOB DUTIES: Productivity: • Optimizing collection routes for efficient use of resources while fulfilling customer requirements. Metrics include: • Tons per labor hour. • Tons per mile driven. • Daily lifts and stops. • Tracking missed stops. Safety: • Ensuring that the hauling department operates safely. Key responsibilities include: • Conducting regular observations of drivers by route supervisors. • Training for new drivers or those unfamiliar with equipment. • Thorough investigations of vehicle accidents and injuries, identifying causes, and implementing corrective measures. Compliance: • Monitoring service hours for all drivers. • Overseeing pre and post-trip truck inspections. Customer Service: • Addressing major customer issues, especially liaising with municipalities. • Keeping track and aiming to reduce the number of missed stops in each community. Administrative: • Ensuring the hauling department is adequately staffed and conveying staffing needs to HR. • Processing payroll. • You'll be integral in the interviewing and selection process for new team members.
