The Instructional System Designer (ISD) identifies skills and knowledge gaps of a targeted audience and creates learning experiences to close these gaps. The ISD collaborates with clients and subject matter experts to design and develop effective training solutions.
A bachelor's degree in Instructional Systems Design or a similar field is required, along with a solid understanding of instructional design principles. Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with creativity and resourcefulness.
Summary: The Instructional System Designer (ISD), works to identify skills, knowledge, and information gaps of a targeted audience and based on instructional theory and best practices, to select or create learning experiences that close this gap. The ISD builds strong relationships with clients by demonstrating a deep understanding of their business and learner needs, creating and maintaining solutions that deliver results. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The ISD’s duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks: Performs needs, job, audience, and task analyses to determine training requirements; incorporates analyses outcomes into proposals for curriculum or course design Engages with client stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to solicit information as required during all phases of the project, and to provide suggestions or feedback where appropriate Completes independent research to understand and anticipate business needs and validates research with account teams and clients. Facilitates or actively participates in meetings – in person and virtually – to solicit information required for learning design and development activities Designs and collaborates in development of learning resources in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies to support project requirements. Designs instructor-led training using training methods and multi-media products that engage participants and facilitate the transfer of knowledge or skills Designs web-based training that engages participants through interactive exercises, videos, and animations Uses creative writing to generate video scripts, scenarios, case studies and other products that enhance the learning process Works well independently and as a collaborative member of a team Researches and evaluates innovative technology and strategies in instructional design Research and apply AI tools as appropriate to enhance the design and content creation process Use rapid development content tools (Captivate, Articulate, Lectora etc.) to create online courseware Manage projects efficiently so that tasks are completed on time and problems are anticipated or resolved quickly Qualifications: Solid understanding of instructional design as well as excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must display original thinking and creativity and excel at meeting challenges with resourcefulness and innovative ideas. Bachelors degree in Instructional Systems Design or similar degree (i.e. Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, etc.) required Preferred Skills and Knowledge: Digital learning platforms Instructor-led training eLearning Development Content Development Web-based Training Course Programming General Physical Requirements: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise, move objects. Light work involves sitting most of the time. Reaching, sitting, driving, standing, stooping, lifting, walking, typing, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, view computer monitor, and read. Requires visual acuity to view presentation screens and other visual aids in a classroom or other client setting. Visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle. Both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
