DATE: 9/3/2025 TITLE: Data Analytics Intern RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager, Data Analyst DIVISION/DEPART: Data Center of Excellence SUPERVISES: N/A FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt INCUMBENT: Open SUMMARY: Part-time fall and winter Internship starting in October 2025, ending March 2025. This internship is fully remote, though applicants from the Washington, DC area will have the opportunity to work from the Goodwill Industries International (GII) headquarters in Rockville, Maryland if desired. This internship pays $17.65 per hour for up to 20 hours a week maximum. This role will support a key Data Center of Excellence initiative: the development of PowerBI dashboards reporting on progress and outcomes of grant-related Mission programs. This intern will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally within GII and will gain experience in gathering business requirements from stakeholders and data product users. This intern may have the opportunity to support other Data Center of Excellence initiatives as they arise. Promising applicants will be able to demonstrate familiarity with statistics and data visualization by presenting a project that includes data cleansing, exploration, statistical modeling and visualization in R or Python from their academic or professional portfolio. BASIC FUNCTION: • Wrangle and organize data in the Mission domain to create dashboards which show progress in grant-related activities and outcomes. SPECIFIC DUTIES1: • Creation of grant dashboards in collaboration with the Mission department. • Data wrangling, cleansing, and help creating scalable data storage and shuttling solutions for grant-related data. RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Daily contact with GII team members to coordinate projects and support activities. Local Goodwills: Frequent contact with representatives of Goodwill member organizations. SKILLS NEEDED2: • Strong oral and written communication skills required. • Excellent time management and organization skills. • Familiarity with PowerBI or Tableau preferred. • Demonstrated use of Python or R for statistical modeling projects. EDUCATION: Graduate students studying mathematics, data science, economics, or other related fields are preferred, but undergraduate students in relevant fields are also considered. EXPERIENCE: Academic experience completing complex data projects involving data mining, processing and analytics. Experience presenting technical subjects to non-technical audiences. Some familiarity with tools and software commonly used for data analysis and visualization, like PowerBI, Tableau, Excel, R, Python etc. DECISION MAKING: Decision and recommendation-making for developing systems, appropriate responses to identified needs, and consultative guidance to improve performance. SUPERVISION: Moderate with latitude given to the position in carrying out work assignments. Work is checked for accuracy and completeness. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Sedentary with lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles or files. Walking and standing are required occasionally; long hours sitting at a desk and using a computer. EMOTIONAL EFFORT: Work environment occasionally hectic but usually flexible. Must demonstrate a positive attitude in meeting daily challenges.
