This is a hands-on, in-office role closely connected to a modern manufacturing plant in Chester, Connecticut-ideal for an engineer who enjoys seeing designs come to life on the production floor.As a Design Engineer, you'll play a critical role in shaping new products from concept through launch, while collaborating across Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Marketing. You'll have the opportunity to influence product strategy, drive value engineering, and make a real impact on products used every day by customers.Responsibilities:Lead the design and development of innovative hardware solutions, including locking, operating, and rolling components for the residential window and door (fenestration) industry.Drive new product development and continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean principles and value engineering to meet market needs.Partner with Sales and customers to deliver market-driven, customer-focused design solutions.Develop cost-effective designs that meet volume, performance, and budget targets, leveraging both domestic and global manufacturing options.Create and execute testing protocols to ensure products meet performance, quality, and regulatory standards.Provide hands-on engineering support to Manufacturing and Quality teams to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.Maintain accurate and compliant engineering documentation in accordance with document control standards.Manage projects to ensure delivery on time and within budget.Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering5-8+ years in an Engineering Design role in a manufacturing environment or equivalent experience.Preferred experience in the window and door industry but not required.Experience with CREO or similar 3D modeling softwareFamiliar with manufacturing processes, including die-casting, injection molding, and stampingMechanical/hands-on aptitudeWorking knowledge of machine design, kinematics, dynamics, and structural analysisProduct management experience from concept to launchA working understanding of materials knowledge including metals, plastics, and coatingsProficient in 2D and 3D CADBachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering.5-8+ years of engineering design experience in a manufacturing environment (or equivalent).Experience in the window and door industry is a plus, but not required.Proficiency with CREO or similar 3D CAD software; strong skills in both 2D and 3D design.Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as die casting, injection molding, and stamping.Strong mechanical aptitude with a hands-on approach to problem solving.Working knowledge of machine design, kinematics, dynamics, and structural analysis.Experience managing products from concept through launch.Practical understanding of materials including metals, plastics, and coatings.Why This Role?Work for a stable, respected manufacturer with a long history of success and innovation.Make a visible impact by working directly with manufacturing and seeing your designs in production.Collaborate with experienced professionals in an environment that values continuous improvement and Lean thinking.Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
