Benefits: • Flexible schedule English to Spanish - Legal Translator, Editor, and/or Transcriber (Remote) • Status: Freelance Contractor • Requirements: U.S. Citizenship Global Language Strategies, a business headquartered in the Washington, D.C. metro region, is currently seeking a professional freelance linguist to translate, edit, and/or transcribe legal documents from English to Spanish. This is a remote position, as needed. Job Duties: 1. Provide accurate translation, editing of documents, and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from English to Spanish. 2. Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms. 3. Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language. 4. Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale. 5. Translate, edit, and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards. 6. Use domain-specific terminology. 7. Review and certify other translators’ work quality, as needed. 8. Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 9. Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
