Are you looking for a role that offers professional growth and career advancement? A leading organization is seeking a Sales & Use Tax Manager to join its dynamic tax team in Tonawanda, NY. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with sales and use tax regulations while also driving process efficiencies and collaborating with multiple departments, including Treasury and Corporate Accounting. NOTE: Must be willing to relocate to NY if not already local. Relocation Assistance available. Key Responsibilities: • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three tax professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and performance excellence. • Oversee all aspects of sales and use tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely filings across multiple divisions. • Manage tax registrations and monitor nexus exposure to determine when new filings may be required. • Address and resolve tax notices, working proactively with relevant authorities. • Maintain and optimize the Vertex Tax Decision Maker software, ensuring proper tax determination and compliance. • Conduct in-depth research on tax regulations and the impact of new product offerings. • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance best practices. • Support compliance efforts for additional indirect taxes as needed. • Develop, review, and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve department workflows. • Work extended hours as needed during key reporting periods and to meet critical deadlines. Qualifications & Skills: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; advanced coursework or MST is a plus. • Minimum 7 years of sales tax experience within a large corporate tax function or Big 4 public accounting, preferably with a background in manufacturing or retail. • Expertise with Vertex or other sales tax software is essential. • Strong technical skills with the ability to quickly learn and leverage new tax systems for process improvements. • Proven track record of driving tax process efficiencies and implementing innovative solutions. • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure. • Experience managing tax exposure and optimizing tax strategies within the sales tax function. • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively. • Desire to work in a forward-thinking tax department, taking on strategic projects beyond standard compliance and audit defense. • Prior leadership experience is preferred, with a demonstrated ability to guide and develop a team.
