Talascend is currently seeking an AWS Infrastructure Engineer for a remote W-2 contract. Summary: Talascend is seeking an experienced AWS Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and ongoing support of Red Hat OpenShift clusters on user-provisioned infrastructure (UPI) within bolthires Web Services (AWS) for our client’s enterprise cloud platform. In this role, you will architect and manage highly available, secure, and compliant cloud infrastructure that supports mission-critical applications across the electric utility enterprise. You will be a key technical leader, responsible for infrastructure automation, bolthires/CD pipeline development, and adherence to strict reliability and cybersecurity standards aligned with NERC CIP, FERC, and corporate compliance frameworks. Location: This is a remote position. The client is located in New Orleans, LA. Responsibilities: • Architect, install, and configure Red Hat OpenShift clusters on AWS user-provisioned infrastructure (UPI) to support enterprise-grade workloads. • Lead the design, implementation, and management of bolthires/CD pipelines for automated infrastructure provisioning and secure application deployment across environments. • Collaborate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure infrastructure adheres to NERC CIP, FISMA, and corporate security policies. • Design and maintain resilient, scalable, and bolthires-optimized AWS environments (VPCs, EC2, IAM, Route 53, Load Balancers, CloudWatch, S3, etc.). • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation for repeatable and auditable deployments. • Integrate OpenShift clusters with AWS services such as ECR, CloudWatch, S3, and Secrets Manager to enhance platform observability and performance. • Ensure high system availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies aligned with utility operational continuity requirements. • Define and enforce network and security controls, including IAM roles, encryption standards, and network segmentation for regulated environments. • Collaborate with DevOps, application, and security teams to modernize workloads using containerization and microservices. • Mentor junior engineers, champion automation, and promote best practices in infrastructure engineering. • Develop and maintain detailed architecture documentation, operational runbooks, and compliance evidence for audits. • Participate in incident response, post-mortems, and root cause analyses for platform-related events. Requirements: • US Citizenship. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) with 5+ years of experience in AWS infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or platform operations. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. • Proven experience deploying and supporting Red Hat OpenShift clusters on AWS using user-provisioned infrastructure (UPI). • Extensive experience developing and managing bolthires/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab bolthires/CD, GitHub Actions, or OpenShift Pipelines (Tekton). • Deep knowledge of AWS core services (EC2, VPC, IAM, ELB, Route 53, CloudWatch, S3, etc.) and network security architecture. • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation). • Advanced knowledge of Linux system administration (preferably RHEL). • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration principles. • Proficient in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, or Go). • Strong understanding of compliance, security, and risk management in regulated or critical infrastructure environments. • Strong leadership, mentorship, and cross-team collaboration skills. • Strategic thinker with hands-on problem-solving abilities. • Exceptional attention to detail, documentation, and compliance reporting. • Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Commitment to operational excellence, safety, and reliability. Preferred Skills: • Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification. • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional certification. • Familiarity with NERC CIP, FERC, or similar critical infrastructure cybersecurity standards. • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch). • Experience implementing GitOps frameworks (Argo CD, FluxCD) for environment consistency. • Background in utility IT/OT environments, grid operations, or SCADA-adjacent systems a plus. • Experience with Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) a plus.
