Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity on a project site in St. Lucie County, FL for an experienced Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our geotechnical engineering and construction management practice managed from our South Florida operations in Boca Raton. This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects involving the built environment and large civil/geotechnical water storage and conveyance infrastructure including reservoirs, stormwater treatment areas (STAs), pump stations, gates, weirs, dikes, dams, levees, canals, barrier walls, and waste containment facilities. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include: Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications; Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, and seepage; Review field documentation and laboratory tests of construction materials and verifying accuracy and compliance with project specifications; Project/task management and proposal preparation support; Geotechnical site characterization; Oversight of construction quality assurance and field inspections; Construction and contractor management for large-scale earthen fluid containment and conveyance structures; Leading and/or participating in project construction meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, providing updates on construction activities, identifying potential construction problems and delays; Review, respond and approve contractor shop drawing submittals, change orders (CO), field orders (FO), and value engineering (VE) proposals delegated under client authority; Prepare detailed responses to contractor requests for information (RFIs), and requests for clarification (RFCs) to the contract documents in a timely manner; Analyze construction schedules and critical path management (CPM), and monitor construction progress with respect to scheduling and CPM tasks; and Verifying project completion milestones and contract closeout/commissioning. Education and Licensure Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field. (required) Advanced degree in earth science, environmental engineering or a related field. (preferred) Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.). (required) Skills, Experience and Qualifications At least 8 years of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) Prior experience managing large multi-task civil earthworks, civil construction projects and sophisticated estimating and scheduling techniques. (required) Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Windows based software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint etc.). (required) Experience and proficiency in construction management software (e.g., e-Builder). (required) Previous project management background and knowledge of CPM software. (preferred) Working knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering and computer aided design software (e.g., Slide, gINT, GEO5 Suite, PLAXIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.). (preferred) Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) Excellent writing and communication skills. (required) Regular field work including work outdoors and overnight travel. (required) Fieldwork: up to 100% (current fieldwork is based out of the Saint Lucie County, FL) Overnight Travel: Up to 100% Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required. Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred) Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
