High school diploma/GED with 1 year customer contact experience, preferably Medicaid experience, ability to perform math calculations, valid Georgia driver's license, and intermediate Microsoft Office skills.

The Georgia Department of Community Health is seeking qualified applicants for Economic Support Specialist 1 positions for its Katie Beckett Office in Norcross, Georgia. The Katie Beckett Medicaid Program permits the state to waive family income requirements for certain children who are disabled. It provides benefits to certain children under 18 years of age who qualify as disabled individuals under §1614 of the Social Security Act. This position will work directly with applicants and their families to ensure the timely processing of applications and renewals. This is a hybrid position that requires in-office and remote work with the approval of the supervisor. The days and frequency in the office can change at any time during employment based on the business needs of the organization. Under direct supervision of the Katie Beckett Manager, the Katie Beckett Eligibility Specialist interviews and investigates applicants and recipients to determine eligibility for use of social programs and agency resources. The work schedule is generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility with these office hours may be required depending upon the work location assignment and responsibilities. This position may require the use of a vehicle for travel to meetings and other assigned work duties. • Accepts applications and determines initial and ongoing eligibility for various classes of ABD Medicaid assistance specializing in Katie Beckett Medicaid. • Record and evaluate personal and financial data obtained from individuals. • Manage at least 50 cases a month. • Adheres to assigned daily work schedule, meets attendance standards as outlined in DCH policy. • Calculates budgets manually and using appropriate devices. • Ability to answer a high volume of incoming calls from customers. • The capability of being flexible with work assignments and the ability to multitask. • Key in a high volume of data using standard office hardware and software. • Provide professional, courteous, and helpful customer service to our internal and external customers. • Performs other professional responsibilities as assigned. High School diploma/GED and one (1) year of job-related customer contact/interaction experience. Preferred Qualifications Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess the following: • Possess 2 - 3 years of knowledge and experience in current Family Medicaid policy. • Possess 2 - 3 years of experience processing Family Medicaid in GA Gateway Key Skills & Qualifications: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications applicants must possess the following: • Bachelor's degree from an approved accredited college • Two (2) years of experience screening or interviewing customers/clients as a regular part of the position • Medicaid experience or comparable program experience • Must pass the Mandatory New Hire Policy Training • Must be able to work a non-traditional work schedule. A non-traditional schedule may include early mornings, late evenings, or weekend work. • Novice level of understanding Katie Beckett policies and procedures • Must be able to perform simple math calculations. • Frequent traveling and overnight stays • Have a valid Georgia Driver’s License • Must have reliable transportation for work, traveling to meetings and for other official business for the agency. • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Key Competencies: • Interpersonal Skills- Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences. • Arithmetic/Mathematical Reasoning- Performs computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly to compute budget data; solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical techniques to determine client eligibility. • Computer Skills- Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. • Manages and Organizes Information- Identifies a need for information; gathers, organizes, and maintains information / data; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods. • Screening and Verifying Information– Interviews applicants, customers, clients (in-person or via phone) and requests confidential information (financial, medical, etc.) to determine eligibility; controlling the Interview by executing introduction, gentle redirecting, clear instructions, take notes, being polite and courteous, Timeliness, and not drawn out/too long. • Critical Evaluation– The ability to interpret information to make business decisions and recommendations. • Case Management Efficiency - Does not deviate from current task often, completes tasks timely, Tracks follow-up, number of cases touched in a day, and touched cases that resulted in an action (Completion, Checklist or Reported Error).
