Full Description

GEMCO, a fourth-generation, family-owned manufacturing company specializing in capital equipment, is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to support operations and production coordination. This role is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with coursework or experience in Computer Science, data analysis, or systems thinking. The Operations Coordinator Co-Op will work closely with engineering, operations, procurement, vendors, and shop-floor personnel to support material flow, production scheduling, and process efficiency. This position offers hands-on exposure to real-world manufacturing operations, project management, ERP systems, and cross-functional collaboration. Responsibilities:Support day-to-day departmental activities under the guidance of engineers and operations staff.Assist with data collection, analysis, and documentation related to projects and processes.Participate in team meetings, project reviews, and cross-functional discussions.Perform basic research and present findings to team members or supervisors.Maintain organized records, files, and reports in both digital and physical systems.Assist with preparing reports, presentations, and technical documentation.Communicate professionally with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders.Observe and support shop-floor or operational activities to gain hands-on experience.Use standard software tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, project management systems, etc.).Leverage computer science or programming knowledge (e.g., data analysis, automation, reporting tools) to improve workflows and operational visibility.Requirements:Currently pursuing or a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.Coursework or background in Computer Science, data analysis, or programming preferred.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Interest in manufacturing operations, capital equipment, and production environments.Experience or familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.Experience with project management tools (Asana, Trello, etc.) is a plus.Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.Must reside in New Jersey or within commuting distance of Middlesex, NJ.
