Location: Henry Hood Center For Health Research Shift: Days (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Worker Type: Fixed Term (Fixed Term) Exemption Status: Yes Job Summary: The Biostatistics Core at Geisinger collaborates closely with researchers across the health system, providing comprehensive support throughout all stages of the research process—from proposal development to data analysis and interpretation. Core members offer expertise in: • Refining research questions and hypotheses • Designing studies and selecting variables • Estimating sample size and statistical power • Developing analysis plans • Designing data collection methods and randomization schemes • Managing data and conducting biostatistical analyses The Core consists of 10 members with a mix of MS- and PhD level positions. Members collaborate with departments across the health system including Community Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, among others and support full-time research faculty on grant related efforts. The Biostatistics Core is seeking a full-time master’s-level biostatistician. Responsibilities include collaborating on the design of clinical research studies, writing biostatistical analysis plans for research proposals and internal grants, calculating sample size and power, managing, analyzing, and interpreting study data and results, contributing to study publications, and educating members of the research team in statistical methods and study design. Experience in logistic regression, time-to-event (survival), and observational data analysis methods are essential as well as the fundamentals of model building. The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in biostatistics or related field with at least 4 years of consulting experience in a healthcare environment. They should possess a solid understanding of clinical research, excellent communication skills, work independently and ability to handle multiple projects to meet deadlines in a multidisciplinary research environment. Experience managing large datasets in a healthcare environment is required. The candidate must have experience in programming for data management and complex data analysis using SAS or R. This position has the potential to be remote, depending on the candidate. Job Duties: Independently provides statistical consultations or collaborations with clinical principal investigators. Includes developing the appropriate study design, determining the type of analysis for selected studies and designing appropriate methods of data collection, preparing publication quality graphics, and assisting in manuscript preparation as needed. Educates residents and staff on statistical techniques and methods of analysis. Acquires and installs upgrades and effectively uses the most current versions of the major statistical packages. Participates in research committees. Work is typically performed in an office environment. Position Details: COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Advanced skills and knowledge in biostatistics, statistical methods in medical and clinical research, and epidemiology. Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate quantitative information to medical personnel and administrative staff. Independently provides statistical consultations or collaborations with clinical principal investigators. Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude to work effectively in a team environment Possesses the critical thinking skills needed to provide statistical support to clinical investigators. Experienced SAS or R programmer for both data manipulation and statistical analysis. Detail-oriented with excellent validation and documentation skills. Independently uses time management and organizational skills to successfully prioritize concurrent projects. Demonstrates sound judgment and resourcefulness. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in biostatistics or a closely related field, required. Experience performing statistical analysis in a healthcare environment, 4 years required. Experience managing large datasets in a healthcare environment, required. Advanced proficiency with at least one major statistical software package (preferably SAS or R), required.
