Job Description Summary The Technical Leader for Nuclear Island Mechanical Systems Applications will be part of a multi-discipline applications engineering team of dedicated engineers responsible for the deployment of GVH SMR plant technology (e.g. BWRX-300 Standard Plant) across multiple US and international sites, including comprehensive engineering input to the development of new plant proposals, early works agreements and new product offerings. In this position, you will provide technical leadership for nuclear island mechanical systems engineering activities supporting SMR site applications within a coordinated EPC project delivery framework. While coordinating closely with project controls and mechanical engineering discipline subject matter experts, you will drive on time and on budget delivery of quality engineering technical products. Key to your success is the early identification of risks, scope gaps, and execution challenges to drive mitigation strategies. You will lead and coordinate a small team of mechanical systems engineers, assigning work based on project priorities, skillsets, and developmental goals to ensure effective workload planning and resource utilization. Working at the intersection of site applications engineering, team leadership, engineering project development, and engineering performance management, you will ensure the overall project success of new site applications in the field of mechanical systems engineering. Job Description Essential Responsibilities: As a Technical Leader in Site Applications Engineering, you will: Provide technical leadership for nuclear island mechanical system engineering activities supporting BWRX-300 site applications. Ensure work scopes and design inputs are clearly defined and aligned with design basis requirements. Oversee development of engineering plans, schedules, deliverables, and resource needs, ensuring effective workload planning. Collaborate with teams in engineering, licensing, and/or project controls to resolve complex technical issues and integration challenges. Work closely with technical subject matter experts in the mechanical systems engineering discipline to ensure alignment with system functions and requirements. Provide coaching, mentoring, and growth opportunities for team members. Support integration across multiple engineering disciplines, including architectural engineering, licensing, equipment design, and safety systems. Contribute to an engineering team that assures proposals and early works packages for selected sites are compatible with our standard product offering. Establish and maintain strong working relationship with internal engineering teams. Interface with external partners, customers, and other applicable country specific regulatory agencies as required on technical issues. Work with proposal and early works teams to build estimates, schedules, and identify risks associated with different opportunities. Provide guidance to external partner engineering resources to ensure the quality of deliverables. Support commercial and marketing opportunities to develop new business opportunities. Protect the Intellectual Property rights of GEVH. Support GEVH initiatives, corrective action, process improvement and simplification. Ensure adherence to GEVH’s standards for nuclear safety and compliance. Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field. At least 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical systems engineering. At least 5 years of experience in the nuclear industry or equivalent large scale power generation industry. Eligibility Requirements: The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but highly qualified remote candidates will be considered. This role may require access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government. Desired Qualifications: Leadership experience within an EPC project delivery model executing a full project execution lifecycle, with special emphasis on early project phases. Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field Professional Engineer registration in one or more states. Strong knowledge of nuclear mechanical systems design principles, including safety classification, functional requirements, and performance criteria. Demonstrated ability to adapt mechanical systems designs to new codes, standards, and regulations. Familiarity with nuclear mechanical codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI/ANS, etc. Knowledge of diverse regulatory schemes (e.g., US NRC, CNSC, IAEA, etc.) Working knowledge of earned value management principles and strategies for both proactive schedule management and recovery of off track engineering deliverables. Strong sense of engineering scope ownership and ability to drive successful team performance. Proven ability to be a liaison between organizations that are operating in separate geographic locations High performing individual with demonstrated ability to deliver results while exhibiting behaviors that promote strong team performance Proven interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to think strategically, be creative and move quickly Demonstrated ability to lead a team of highly experienced engineers and balance multiple demands and priorities High performing energetic leader with demonstrated ability to deliver results while exhibiting behaviors that promote strong team performance Experience with project management skillset (communication, risk, planning/scheduling, change management) EPC experience and knowledge; specifically, power plant Understanding of nuclear industry and technology Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
