The Manager, Locomotive Operations is responsible for the overall performance of GATX’s fleet of Net Lease locomotives, including the development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans, programs and processes that ensure the achievement of Quality, Delivery and Cost (QDC) objectives. The Manager leads initiatives which improve overall economics and reliability of GATX’s fleet of locomotives as well as builds and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external customers. This customer focus includes directly addressing customer issues, as well as prioritizing the work based on customers’ needs. Qualified candidates who are currently Wells Fargo Rail employees will be given priority consideration over other external applicants. Responsibilities Operations Oversight Track and maintain records that ensure GATX’s fleet of net lease locomotives are being kept in compliance with executed leases. Work with customers to ensure that daily inspections are completed and up to date. Work with the compliance team to be a liaison with our net lease customers ensuring that EPA compliance is being kept up to date. Create a database of mechanical contacts with our net lease customers, use this database for potential parts sales. Work with other levels of locomotive management to reduce the cost to GATX regarding net lease locomotives being returned off lease. Collaborate with the GATX commercial team to identify areas of improvement in our net leases. On Lease Oversight Oversight of GATX oil sample program ensuring that all customers are using the correct lubricants and that all oil samples are flagged if out of compliance. Coordinate movement of net leased locomotives that incur damage from wrecks or any major repairs. Create and oversee database which allows our net lease customers to report changes in components, use this database for predictive failure analysis. Monitor usage by net lease customers ensuring that when contract negotiations are taking place, we have usage data available for our commercial team. Serve as a liaison with new net lease customers regarding maintenance that GATX can perform on their units whether in the Gulf Coast Region or anywhere in North America. Provide guidance and oversight into expanding GATX’s locomotive net leasing presence in Canada. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business management/operations management, industrial technology, engineering or another related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment required, with leadership experience in repairing locomotives strongly preferred. Project management experience preferred. Knowledge of AAR, FRA and GATX locomotive maintenance standards preferred. Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency or the ability to become proficient with the following systems: MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) SAP Strong analytical skills; ability to collect, analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data; apply structured and disciplined methodology to identify root causes using data required. Ability and willingness to meet all customer suitability requirements required. Valid driver’s license. Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), or the ability to obtain. Must be available to travel as needed, up to 40%. Posting Duration This posting will remain open for 5 days. As of the post date, the salary range for this position is: Min USD $90,400.00/Yr. Max USD $112,000.00/Yr. This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire. This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
