A leading Washington-area legal and technology consulting firm, Freedom Technologies Inc., which specializes in law, policy, strategic communications, and engineering, seeks law and graduate students to join its professional team part-time during the academic year and full-time during the summer. We hire candidates who are detail-oriented, well-organized, and can work on individual or team projects in a fast-paced collaborative environment. Who we are: Our legal and policy advice, analysis, and cutting-edge research embraces a range of high-visibility national and international policy issues critical to the tech sector, for both government and private-sector clients. These include radio spectrum, space and satellite regulations, internet governance, telecommunications regulation, legislation, and national security policy matters. Our firm is known for providing deep knowledge and strategic advice to several government agencies and numerous private sector clients. Our client base includes senior level officials who can influence national policy in these areas. We have supported legal and policy analysis at the U.S. Departments of Defense, Commerce and State, NASA, and the FCC. What we seek: An ideal applicant brings intellectual curiosity, legal and/or policy acumen, issue management expertise, and strong written and oral communications skills. Responsibilities: • Develop a range of written materials, for advocacy and information, along with research and analysis. • Provide issue spotting and strategic assessments of complex regulatory and legislative developments. • Apply expertise to complex work assignments requiring originality and innovative thinking. • Support communications and outreach campaigns. • Manage client relations and take responsibility as needed for project management. Desirable Qualifications: • Interest in technology/communications law and public policy, with a strong general legal and/or policy background. • Demonstrated knowledge of federal government agencies, including those with spectrum-dependent missions as well as those primarily engaged with military and space interests. • Ideal Clearances: TS-SCI; Secret. [US Citizen] • Work experience in engineering, IT/high-tech, or communications, particularly in a defense industry or military setting. • Electrical engineering background with a strong interest in policy.
