POSITION OVERVIEW The Import Manager is responsible for managing the import operations function in the Atlanta Imports Department. Participates in implementing and maintaining internal controls that will ensure that company Import decisions are supported and in compliance with policies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Operational and commercial management of the Import Department • Supervisory management responsibilities for both import and export employees, including daily work assignments and scheduling • Ensure policies and procedures set forth by the company are followed • Conduct annual performance evaluations and reviews for all staff within the division • Create individual training and development plans that address needs and expectations • Responsible for interviewing all new hires and implementing disciplinary measures as needed • Inform Human Resources of any escalating incidents • Lead the development and engagement of the Import Department • Implement new procedures for KPI reporting in coordination with task force and/or CargoWise team • Contribute to process improvements, continuous innovations, and cost optimizations • Provide proactive problem resolution and corrective actions to ensure service excellence • Manage updates and communicate new requirements in CargoWise • Responsible for financial results and optimizations of the Import Department • Resolve and reconcile incorrect payables by working with vendors and overseas offices • Responsible for customer satisfaction • Receive and track customer bookings/shipments • Update clients on shipment status and delays • Respond in a timely manner to customer requests via phone or email • Provide air and ocean freight quotes • Receive, review, and process import documentation from overseas agents and customers • Handle bookings from overseas agents and coordinate moves to destination • Update shipment status, issue arrival notices, and obtain entry documents for customs entries • Communicate with customs brokers to confirm customs release status • Adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations • Dispatch freight for delivery and maintain communication with truckers throughout delivery • Collect proof of delivery (POD) • Cost and invoice all files EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus additional job-related coursework or specialized training • 8+ years industry experience, specific to Ocean / Air Import shipments • 5+ years staff management experience • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers • Outstanding customer service skills with capability to work under stress and remain flexible • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices • Self-motivated and eager to learn • Result-oriented with talent for problem solving • Strong analytical skills • Proficiency in MS Office applications • IATA Dangerous Goods (Class 7) Experience & Certification is an asset • 3PL & 4PL Control Tower Experience is an asset PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Safely and successfully performs the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards. • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. • Must be able to sit for prolonged period of time in office environment, desk setting • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
