We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Operations team. The successful candidate will be a critical asset in managing, maintaining, and optimizing our diverse server and storage ecosystem to ensure high availability, performance, and security across the organization. This role requires deep expertise across various operating systems and storage technologies with a strong focus on infrastructure and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Systems Management & Infrastructure • Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure. Supporting both windows or Linux virtual servers for mission-critical applications across various environments (on-premises, cloud, and hybrid). • Provision and de-provision block-level (SAN) and file-level (NAS) storage to physical and virtual servers based on organizational needs and performance requirements • Manage the full Server lifecycle from initial configuration and setup through to maintenance, patching, upgrades, and eventual decommissioning. • Architect and implement robust backup and recovery strategies (including disaster recovery and business continuity plans) for all supported server and storage platforms. • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation related to systems architecture, configuration, processes, and standards. • Collaborate closely with infrastructure teams on capacity planning, hardware/storage provisioning, and network configuration to optimize server and storage performance and reliability. Performance and Optimization • Proactively monitor server and storage performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing advanced performance tuning (e.g., I/O optimization, server hardening strategies, instance configuration) to meet SLAs. • Conduct routine performance audits and health checks across the entire virtual server estate. • Configure and manage storage volumes, LUNs, and file shares to support application, database, and user data storage. • Work closely with virtualization teams to Manage and optimize datastores for environments like VMware. • Automate routine operational tasks such as monitoring, alerting, patching, and provisioning using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) and configuration management tools. • Troubleshoot and resolve complex storage-related issues, such as performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and data access errors. Server and Storage Technologies • Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in administering, troubleshooting, and supporting Server Operating Systems (including Linux, Windows, VMware ESXi). • Demonstrate deep experience with VMware or other Hypervisor and its associated tools, configurations, and high-availability solutions. • Strong experience with Server administration, including Hardening, Performance, Storage allocations, Backup and Recovery, and High Availability solutions. • Strong experience with supporting all-flash arrays and related features, including snapshots, replication, and performance tuning (e.g., PURE, NetApp) is highly desirable. Operational Support & Security • Serve as an escalation point for complex server and storage issues, providing 24/7 on-call support on a rotational basis. • Implement and manage data protection strategies, including backups, snapshots, replication, and disaster recovery (DR) plans. • Enforce security policies and procedures, managing user access, roles, and privileges in compliance with internal and external audit requirements. • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production incidents, providing root cause analysis and implementing permanent fixes. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. • 7+ years of professional experience in server administration and engineering, specifically within an Infrastructure and Operations context. • Proven mastery of multiple operating systems and storage offerings, including Linux, Windows, VMware ESXi, NAS (Network Attached Storage), Block Storage (SAN) and Cloud Storage. • Expertise in Server and Storage security, performance tuning, and high availability configurations (e.g., clustering, replication, failover) and snapshot management. • Strong experience with cloud-based server and storage services (e.g., AWS EC2, S3, Azure server, Azure Files, Glacier or Blob storage). • Excellent scripting and automation skills (e.g., Shell, Python, PowerShell). • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly. Preferred Qualifications • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., RHEL Certified, Microsoft Certified: AWS or Azure Cloud Certifications, VMware certified professional). • Experience with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker). • Experience with Storage support and migration projects, including cross-platform shared storage migrations supporting (CIFS or NFS). • Knowledge of monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent. • Knowledge of data replication tools like Zert0 or RecoverPoint • Experience with managing data backups and recovery using tools like NetBackup, NetApp or equivalent. • Strong knowledge of storage protocols, such as Fiber Channel, iSCSI, NFS, and SMB About ForeFlight ForeFlight, a Boeing company, is the leading provider of advanced integrated software for the General, Business and Military Aviation markets worldwide. If you are selected for this role, your employment may initially be with Boeing (dependent on start date). Subject to final regulatory approvals and closing conditions, your employment may transfer to the divested business owned by Thoma Bravo at close.
