We’re growing and looking for an experienced Attorney with nonprofit experience (preferred) and a solid transactional foundation to join our team. This role is a strong match for an attorney who enjoys being a steady, practical advisor—someone who can translate complex legal issues into clear options, draft with precision, and support mission-driven leaders as they navigate growth. This is a remote position. We are seeking attorneys actively licensed and barred in California, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and New York (California strongly preferred). The Work As Of Counsel, you’ll work with nonprofit and purpose-driven clients on the legal issues that matter most to their stability and success. Your work will be primarily advisory and transactional. You may be helping a founder set up a clean governance structure and compliance plan, counseling a board through a thorny decision, or negotiating a key contract that protects the organization while keeping momentum high. On a practical level, the role includes drafting and reviewing contracts; preparing and revising formation and governance documents (including bylaws, policies, and core corporate records); advising on state and federal compliance; and supporting exemption-related work where appropriate. You’ll also help clients strengthen their internal systems—policies, procedures, and governance practices—so they can operate confidently and responsibly. Internally, you’ll partner closely with our legal team to ensure that matters are well-scoped, well-documented, and moving forward with a consistent strategy. Who You Are We’re looking for an attorney who brings strong judgment and a service mindset. You listen for what clients are really trying to accomplish, and you’re skilled at turning that into an efficient legal plan. You draft cleanly, spot issues early, and communicate in a way that makes clients feel informed—not overwhelmed. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy working collaboratively in a remote environment, are comfortable using modern legal tech, and take ownership of your work without waiting to be asked. Nonprofit experience is strongly preferred, and we also value attorneys who understand business realities and can balance legal rigor with practical solutions. Qualifications You have a J.D. from an accredited law school and 3–6+ years of relevant experience, ideally with meaningful exposure to nonprofit governance and compliance, transactional drafting, and business law concepts. You are licensed and in good standing in California, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Florida or New York (with California preferred). You bring excellent writing and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters independently while staying connected to a team.
