We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Network Engineer to help maintain and advance our network strategies to support the firm’s future vision. The Network Engineer will be responsible for the upkeep and wellbeing of the firm’s backbone, which includes architecture, design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all network and firewall related infrastructure Key Responsibilities: Responsible for the firm’s LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi/Firewall network infrastructure which includes routers, switches, firewalls, Wireless Access Points, and various data circuits etc. Deploy enterprise solutions architecture, coordinating installations and migrations, and managing SLAs for ISP’s and applications across the firm. Collaborate with other infrastructure teams (Systems and EUC) to implement both on-prem and cloud solutions and provide technical guidance, design specification and solution level support for connectivity, integration, and application migration. Work closely with other IT teams across the IT department to ensure appropriate network capacity and performance planning. Responsible for maintaining network design documentation and device configuration management for the firm’s networks. Scale cloud services to serve growing business needs and implement effective security strategies for both on-prem and cloud strategies. Responsible for all aspects of the firm’s networking systems including hardware, software, design topology, security compliance, maintenance, and documentation. Perform complex technical analyses of networks, software, hardware, routers, switches, firewalls, and various transmission systems, and utilize a variety of diagnostic tools to continuously monitor network performance. Responsible for conducting network, resources, and performance analysis to identify inadequacy and inefficiency, and provide recommendations for investments and design enhancements to improve the delivery of continuous, uninterrupted, network services. Responsible for reviewing leading edge technologies to help the firm achieve business objectives and improve the ability for attorneys to communicate internally and externally. Responsibilities will include a comprehensive understanding of firm security policies and procedures, and the development of documented procedures, guidelines, and network diagrams in compliance with firm security policies. Familiar with system monitoring and will identify and apply solutions to minimize service outages or lapses. The Network Engineer will be expected to resolve network-related issues of a diverse scope and resolve escalated problems. Interface with vendors as technical liaisons to identify and coordinate the purchase of appropriate network or communication-related hardware and software. Document client proposals that require non-routine, or more technically complex solutions. Required Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in a legal and/or enterprise-class environment with a complex network and security architecture Experience ordering, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting modern data and voice circuits In-depth knowledge of Network and firewall systems and IP Protocols Ability to understand a complex network with minimal supervision Strong knowledge of network hardware such as routers; switches; firewalls, and load balancers Knowledge of various networking and communications hardware and software Familiar with monitoring systems and tools used to prevent lapses in service Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related field The ability to create and oversee the installation of the fiber and copper cable plant in a building and be the lead engineer in the design of all the firms MDF, IDF, and general data center moves (including the specification of Electrical, AC, cabling, space planning, etc. for Network/Server equipment) Experience working with multiple networking and routing protocols, including TCP/IP, MPLS, OSPF, and MP-BGP The ability to perform traffic studies to determine what user/application is using the WAN, be able to determine if traffic is taking a non-optimum path and the ability to correct the routing metrics or SD-WAN templates Strong familiarity with Cisco, Aruba, and Palo Alto technologies Knowledge of network security and system hardening, Microsoft Active Directory, PKI, DNS, DHCP Appreciation for Foley Hoag’s values and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Self-motivated, eager and willing to learn, at the same time being both patient and methodical Ability to work in fast-paced environment and at times navigate stressful and pressurized situations Willing to work occasional long hours on an emergency basis when required and willing to work occasionally scheduled off-hours during weekend and nighttime or early morning time frames Available to serve as part of a weekend/Holiday on call rotation Compensation range is $116,700 to $145,800 commensurate with related experience and qualification. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
