First Division Consulting is seeking a detailed oriented Administrative Assistant to support our customer at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Indian Head. This position will perform a wide variety of complex and confidential tasks in support of customer compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Responsibilities will include: • Receiving FOIA requests, determining the appropriate actions to be taken, and drafting case documentation. • Performing detailed research, analysis, and evaluation to determine whether the documents requested are subject to release. • Consulting with legal on the preparation of denial letters, if the information is not releasable or exempt. • Establishing deadlines and obtaining relevant documents for complaints and appeals. • Preparing final responses to requestors, including redacting records in compliance with FOIA policy and internal program procedures. • Tracking and documenting costs associated with processing FOIA requests. • Update internal Standard Operating Procedures and similar documentation as needed. • Maintain spreadsheets and trackers for FOIA and other related department information as needed. • Provide clerical/administrative support as needed. • A high school diploma, plus at least four (4) years of relevant work experience; minimum of two years’ experience in a legal environment is highly desired. • The selected candidate must have an advanced working knowledge of MS Office, and a willingness to learn other duties as assigned. • The candidate must also be proficient in basic letter composition; knowledge of DoD and Navy formal correspondence and administrative requirements is desired, but training is available if needed. • Security Clearance: An active DoD Secret clearance is required to start.
