POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Safety is responsible for direction, coordination, and administration of all safety and training matters affecting drivers and our passengers. This includes the development, management, coordination and oversight of Safety and Training programs. PAY AND BENEFITS: Full benefits package and a salary range of $85,000 - $95,000 (Based on related experience). ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The below list is not all inclusive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned. CREATING AND PROMOTING SAFETY CULTURE: Provides technical expertise and consultation to management to promote and implement safety-related training programs that drive proactive safety conscience behaviors. Develop, maintain, promote and advance a safety culture. Elevate safety awareness in the company, serving as a technical resource on compliance questions and as a resource interdepartmental training and meetings. Coordinates with operations department to ensure all drivers are informed of new company policies and procedures. Work along with and in conjunction with the other AAAHI Company Safety Directors to adopt best practices and expand the safety culture throughout the entire organization. The Safety Director, in conjunction with the General Manager, will address necessary driver disciplinary action and / or supplemental training. The Safety Director will participate in the driver selection and hiring process for drivers to ensure drivers meet minimum requirements. SAFETY PROGRAMS AND TRAINING: Responsible for developing training programs designed to prepare motor coach operators to be safe motorists. Develop, identify and /or secure safety and training programs for drivers based on accepted hiring standards. Conduct and/or coordinate safety and training sessions as required for drivers. Ensure all employees are compliant with the safety and training requirements. Maintain and update Driving Training Manual. Make recommendations to improve current training programs to ensure relevancy. Ensure training is developed and available that addresses relevant issues or recent accidents to prevent repetitive issues. Assess training needs for a diversified work force and drivers with all levels of experience. Create a training program, in conjunction with our Worker’s Compensation carrier, that focuses on prevention of workplace accidents. Conduct OSHA training, including but not limited to PPE, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc. Compliance: Act as the DER (Designated Employer Representative) for all drug and alcohol situations. Maintain drug/alcohol testing program and ensure proper compliance and documentation of program. Maintain Driver Qualification and ensure all other safety related documents and files to ensure audit readiness and act as point for said audit(s). Ensure all elements of the DQ files are updated timely. Address “Hours of Service” issues with drivers, in conjunction with the operations. Periodic review, accuracy and required maintenance of the FMCSA Safety and Fitness Electronic Records (SAFER) System for the company. Ensure Electronic Logs and Paper Logs are properly maintained. Investigations: Review accident file contents for accuracy and documents needed. Acts as the Gatekeeper for accident preventable decisions. Assure proper accountability and disciplinary action is delivered for preventable accidents. Respond to reported accidents to evaluate current best practices and recommend changes where necessary. Ensure proper investigations are conducted for worker’s compensation injuries and illnesses. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Attend and represent the company at industry safety related meetings and seminars on an as needed basis. Examples: IMG Maintenance and Safety Forum, UMA Expo, etc. May be responsible for ensuring all maintenance related records, pre and post trip inspection forms and other maintenance related inspection items are in order (in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager). Conduct different inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with the FMCSA and FTA (if applicable). Oversee the scheduled periodic facility walkthroughs to comply with OSHA, local fire department and other governing agencies. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED: 3-5 Years of relevant experience as a Safety Director or Manager. CDL license with appropriate endorsements and state certificates preferred. Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSR standards. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example, face-to-face, e-mail, and presentations), listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for others. Ability to develop, coach, and mentor others, including the ability to teach and prepare others for effective job performance. Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals. NATMI Director of Safety certification is a plus.
