IT Technical Writer – Mid Level Location: 300 Lakeside Dr, Oakland, CA 94612 (100% Remote – Local Candidates Preferred) Duration: 9 Months Pay Rate: $40–$50/hr on W2 ONLY Candidates Local To Bay Area or California is preferred Position Overview We are seeking a Mid-Level IT Technical Writer to develop and maintain high-quality manuals, standards, procedures, and guidance documents that ensure compliance with internal and external requirements while supporting public and employee safety. The ideal candidate will have strong experience translating complex technical information into clear, structured, and user-friendly documentation aligned with company templates and standards. Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain IT manuals, standards, procedures, process maps, and guidance documents • Translate complex technical information into clear, concise documentation for non-technical audiences • Take stakeholder notes, process discussions, and workshop inputs and convert them into structured logical steps and formal documentation • Create flowcharts, process diagrams, and organization charts (Visio required; iGrafx preferred) • Ensure documentation meets high standards for accuracy, clarity, grammar, formatting, and usability • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, content owners, and stakeholders to gather requirements • Maintain documentation within company formatting and Guidance Document Management (GDM) standards • Support compliance initiatives and process improvement efforts Required Skills & Qualifications • BA/BS in English, Technical Writing, or related field (or equivalent experience) • 3–5 years of experience in Technical Writing within IT environments • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint • Experience writing standards, procedures, and formal documentation • Experience creating flowcharts and process documentation using Visio (iGrafx preferred) • Ability to work independently and collaboratively • Strong editing, formatting, and documentation design skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Preferred Qualifications • Familiarity with Utilities IT policies, procedures, and Guidance Document Management (GDM) standards • Experience in compliance-driven documentation environments • Process improvement exposure Additional Information • 100% remote, but occasional on-site attendance may be requested for workshops (if feasible) • Must have personal laptop or vendor-provided equipment (Citrix virtual desktop access will be provided) • Local candidates within the service territory are highly preferred (same time zone may be considered)
