Manager, Communications & PR SCOPE OF ROLE The Manager, Communications & PR will play a key role in elevating the Financial Health Network’s visibility and influence by executing high-impact communications initiatives. This role focuses on working with our PR agency on media relations, proactive outreach, supporting executive communications and speaking engagements, and external events support to amplify thought leadership and strengthen the organization’s reputation. The Manager will collaborate closely with the Director of Content & Communications, internal stakeholders, and external agency partners to ensure consistent, polished, and effective communications. EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. LOCATION Chicago (Preferred) PROPOSED SALARY RANGE $74,000 - $90,000 (Annual) The skills and experience of qualified candidates will determine the exact compensation for which this job is filled. QUALIFICATIONS • 5–7 years of professional experience in communications, PR, or media relations (nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience preferred) • Strong writing and editing skills with proven ability to draft a wide range of polished content for diverse audiences (announcements, emails, social media, thought leadership when needed, press releases, etc) • Experience engaging with reporters, editors, and external stakeholders; demonstrated ability to secure earned media. • Comfortable working with crisis communications when needed, responsive to executive and organizational • Strong project management skills with ability to balance multiple priorities under tight deadlines; willingness to learn new project management tools • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across teams and with external partners. • Familiarity with financial health space and issues, including policy, stakeholders and financial service providers strongly desired RESPONSIBILITIES Media Relations & PR Execution • Liaison with external PR agencies for oversight and coordination for agency-led outreach, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, messaging, and priorities. • Drive internal timelines, review processes and execution for press releases; contribute to process for thought leadership abstracts and copy for external placement. • Track media coverage and maintain updated media lists to monitor and expand organizational visibility. • Coordinate workflows, manage deadlines, and track vendor performance across PR and communications activities. Executive Conferences & Events • Coordinate preparation and logistics for executives participating in panels, interviews, and external events. • Support communications planning and execution for conferences and major organizational events (internal and external events, including EMERGE). • Draft abstracts, coordinate speaking submissions, and manage communications deliverables tied to event participation. • Stay informed with the internal team for positioning. • Support PR outreach and coordination for annual EMERGE conference, developing strategy to maximize coverage of events and speaker. • Maintain an event tracker with speaker applications, accepted speaking engagements, deadlines, and planned events and make visible for executives • Support programming and on-site media logistics for FHN’s annual EMERGE event ; have comfort doing in-person interviews (e.g., person-on-the-street style interview) as needed for events Executive Communications • Draft and refine executive talking points, social media support, briefing documents, and presentations for public appearances and speaking engagements as needed. Operations, Analytics & Reporting • Develop and manage external communications milestones and publishing dates using Asana • Monitor communications outcomes across media, PR, and events. • Track metrics, prepare regular performance report outs and dashboards to assess effectiveness and surface insights for continuous improvement.
