HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT Lead the research and development effort for processes and hardware which supports the deposition of thin film coatings. Provide innovation leadership to the business unit. Manage the efforts of one or more technical personnel performing R&D and Laboratory Technical work. Work with a team of interdepartmental personnel to document performance and commercialize the products developed. This position requires supervision of scientists, engineers, technicians and consultants. Long-range general priorities will be established jointly with Sales as managed by Managing Director of the business unit; however, the Process Development Manger will play a substantial role in identifying opportunities and setting priorities. The Process Development Manager will have an international reputation for high-level and high-quality work, and will be widely viewed as a leading industry expert in evaporation and sputtering technology. Reports to the Managing Director -Temescal Business. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE • Play a leadership role in guiding R&D efforts of the business unit. Act as a source of deep technical expertise within the business unit and in interactions with key customer technical personnel. • Lead the research and development efforts for new or improved thin film deposition processes and equipment. Direct the activities of various discipline project team members. • Generate project proposals and plans which define the goals and objectives of a specific project as well as a timeline for the development cycle. Develop project proposals to meet the general business objectives. • Write and execute experimental plans for the development of process equipment. Upon the completion of the experimental plan, create a report of experimental results. • Gather, correlate and analyze experimental research data, calculations and results using the DOE, SPC and consultation tools as applicable. • Support technology transfer for both internal and external customers. This includes: on-site process assistance, oral presentation of project work, and the transfer of technical data or information. • Work in a team environment with engineers/scientists from other functional groups and consultants. Work with engineering in the application of project results to commercialized processes and equipment. • Must be capable of obtaining a solid understanding of the fundamental problems and project objective. • Ensure effective product/technology demonstrations • Determine product process specifications and equipment strengths, weaknesses and areas of development opportunity. • Identify new fields and applications for Thin Film Solutions products. • Perform other duties as required by Project Leader or Manager. • Contribute toward maintaining a healthy and safe work environment by being familiar, knowledgeable and compliant with the contents of the Ferrotec General Safety Practices, procedures and appropriate safe work systems. Duties may change without notice at management's sole discretion WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL • M.S. degree in engineering or physical science, Ph.D. desired. • More than 15 years' experience in relevant thin film deposition technologies with project management experience. • Recognized as a subject matter expert in sputtering and evaporation physical vapor deposition systems and processes. Experience and knowledge of PLD, ALD and CVD processes a plus. • Must be knowledgeable of the relevant advantages and disadvantages of the existing thin film deposition processes used in semiconductor manufacturing, optics, and other applications. • Having a detailed understanding of how the thin film deposition process integrates into the entire process flow is greatly desired. • Strong communication skills and an understanding of the relevant markets for our equipment are needed to interface with customers, Ferrotec Engineering and Sales to select which technologies are most applicable for a given application. • Be a technical expert on the relevant metrologies used for characterizing thin films; profilometry, spectroscopic ellipsometry, spectrophotometry, SEM, AFM and 4-point probe.
