Overview FWI is building a team to deliver strategic communications and public affairs support for the Defense Health Agency and the Military Health System — telling the story of military medicine to service members, beneficiaries, and the American public. As a Senior Communications Team Lead for the DHA Director's Communications and Public Affairs Division, you will lead a diverse team executing campaigns, news operations, social media, branding, outreach, and analytics that shape how the Defense Health Agency communicates with stakeholders nationwide. Some telework may be permitted. Responsibilities Lead and manage all communications work, special projects, and programs for the Military Health System Communications and Public Affairs Division Develop and execute strategic communications plans and campaigns supporting the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) and the broader Military Health System Manage portfolio assignments covering health policy, crisis communications, special observances, and senior leader initiatives Oversee speechwriting and executive communications for senior leaders including the ASD for Health Affairs, Principal Deputy ASD, and Deputy ASDs Direct news and content operations including article development, photography, web content, and editorial synchronization across MHS platforms Lead media relations support including developing responses to media inquiries, preparation packages for interviews, daily news monitoring (MHS Early Bird), and media situation reports Manage social media strategy and content across platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X, YouTube), including a senior leader account Oversee graphic design and full video production, including conference coverage, leadership messages, and produced spots Guide strategic engagement with Military and Veteran Service Organizations, military spouse groups, and other key stakeholders Direct digital communications and web content management for health.mil Oversee analytics and reporting to measure communications impact and inform strategy Write and coordinate formal Public Affairs Guidance for dissemination across DOD public affairs teams Develop an annual MHS Communications Plan capturing key events, activities, and communications opportunities Travel within the Continental United States to support conferences and meetings, estimated five trips per year Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of study 7+ years of experience creating dynamic communications plans across a variety of topics and leading a diverse team Extensive strategic communications planning experience with demonstrated, measurable results Experience across integrated communications disciplines: strategic planning, social media, media relations, internal communications, and strategic outreach Experience overseeing communications analytics and measurement of impact Experience writing and coordinating Public Affairs Guidance Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to manage and execute multiple strategic communications plans simultaneously in both planning and execution phases Experience writing for senior leaders, including speeches, op-eds, news articles, and executive messaging Desired: Prior military or civilian service at the senior level Experience working within the Military Health System, OASD(HA), DHA, or other DoD organizations Experience in health care or health policy communications Experience supporting executive-level speechwriting and messaging FWI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/vets.
