FMP Consulting is seeking talented communications professionals to support our federal client. We are recruiting for multiple Strategic Communications positions at varying levels of specialization, including speechwriting, writing/editing, and technical/science communication. These roles will help advance our client's mission by developing high quality content that clearly communicates the impact of federally funded science and engineering research to Congress, stakeholders, the research community, and the public. About the Roles We are hiring for a pool of Strategic Communications professionals whose responsibilities may include: • Drafting speeches, talking points, and remarks for leadership. • Writing and editing press releases, fact sheets, blog posts, web content, reports, and other written materials. • Translating complex scientific and technical topics into accessible, compelling language tailored to diverse audiences. • Conducting interviews with subject matter experts and program officials to gather accurate, timely information. • Ensuring all communications products meet federal requirements, including plain language and Section 508 accessibility standards. • Supporting content strategy, messaging, and editorial workflows for a high visibility federal science agency. Minimum Qualifications • At least 5 years of professional writing and/or editing experience. • At least 3 years of experience writing about scientific and technological subjects OR providing speechwriting for science focused organizations. • Proven ability to research and fact check through interviews and technical review. • Ability to distill complex scientific information into clear, understandable language. • Proficiency in AP Style and plain language writing. • Experience producing both short and long form written materials. Preferred Qualifications • Speechwriting experience for senior leaders. • Experience in federal agencies, scientific funding organizations, or research institutions. • Degree in journalism, communications, English, science, or related field. • Familiarity with the Plain Writing Act of 2010, Section 508 compliance, SEO, and AEO. Ideal Candidates Will Demonstrate • Excellent editorial judgment and scientific accuracy. • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with technical experts. • Creativity in developing messages showing impact of scientific research. • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast paced environment Salaries will be commensurate with experience and range between $100,000 - $150,000.
