About the Role As Senior Director of Stakeholder Engagement & Policy Partnerships at Fathom, you will be on the ground floor of relationship and coalition building in a fast-growing issue area that touches every part of our society and economy. It is a pivotal moment for the nascent AI stakeholder landscape with every player searching for the solutions and allies that will help them meet the moment: Civil society, labor, and other public-interest groups need to ensure the communities they represent have a voice at the table and aren’t left behind. Private sector leaders across every industry are actively looking for ways to innovate, integrate and deploy AI safely while minimizing risk to their business, their customers, and their reputations. Success in this role will mean meeting each stakeholder where they are and finding an engagement approach that resonates with their unique interests. Your two main charters: Architect and run the third-party and coalition engine supporting Fathom’s policy & advocacy work. Support the growth of a new ecosystem of private and public-sector actors that are driving innovation and demand for rigorous third-party evaluation of AI safety. Key Responsibilities Design and lead Fathom’s stakeholder engagement strategy to support our state and federal policy goals, including the creation of a plan to map potential allies, opponents, validators, and messengers. Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with key industry sectors, trade groups, civil society organizations, labor groups, and public-sector partners who have an aligned interest in safe and trustworthy AI. Build and manage advocacy coalitions that will visibly support Fathom’s policy priorities (e.g., hearings, roundtables, sign-on letters, public endorsements, joint events). Assist our Chief Strategy Officer in launching and managing an Executive Committee of strategic advisors composed of national leaders in academia, civil society, and business sectors. Support the creation of a professional ecosystem for the nascent field of independent AI verification, shaping membership growth strategy for this emerging group of innovators, industry sectors, experts, civil society groups, and thought leaders in the technical AI assurance space. Help prospective members understand how independent AI safety verification fits into their regulatory, reputational, and business-risk landscape. Represent Fathom in external forums - including briefings with partners, industry and policy conferences, private roundtables, and public speaking engagements - as a credible, nonpartisan voice on AI governance and independent verification. Stay up-to-date on AI policy and industry trends (governance, legislation, competitive landscape, and innovation) and translate them into clear engagement opportunities for Fathom and our partners. Build and strengthen Fathom’s profile with key third-party stakeholders and thought leaders so that we are a go-to convener and resource on AI governance. Ideal Profile Experience (7-10+ years): Extensive background in at least one (preferably several) of the following areas: advocacy, public policy, trade associations, business development, coalition building, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, community engagement, or a similar profile Demonstrated experience building and leading coalitions and/or third-party engagement efforts around complex public-policy issues - ideally with a strong understanding of the tech sector and its intersection across other industries like financial services, health care, fintech, insurance, or another highly regulated space. Experience working with or inside state and/or federal policy environments, including familiarity with how policy campaigns are run. Comfort and skill in engaging across political and ideological lines while working in environments with intense scrutiny and competing incentives.
