ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW At Family & Child Empowerment Services (FACES), we envision a future where all families have what they need to live, grow, and thrive in San Francisco. We provide families with high-quality early childhood education; after-school and summer enrichment; job support, training, and placement; and comprehensive family support services and referrals. POSITION SUMMARY FACES seeks a Chief Finance & Compliance Officer (CFCO) that is responsible for financial and compliance leadership, strategy, and sustainability across the organization. The CFCO is responsible for designing, implementing, and sustaining finance, compliance, and people operations management systems to ensure the organization complies with applicable laws, accounting standards, contractual obligations, regulations, and internal processes. The CFCO directly manages the Senior Director of Contracts and Compliance, the Senior Director of People Operations, and a three member finance team. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Financial Responsibilities • Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO, Board of Directors, and members of the senior leadership team, advising on long-term business and financial planning • Manage the processes for financial standard operating procedures in accordance with GAAP, forecasting, and budgets, overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting: monthly, quarterly and annually; as well as for relevant Board meetings and committee meetings • Partner with development and other teams to align revenue strategies with strategic goals and financial sustainability • Manage our financial software and systems to maximize efficiency and efficacy, including Sage, Certify, and other tools required for accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance • Provide predictive modeling, scenario planning, and analysis to support strategic decision-making at the departmental and organizational level • Oversee finance infrastructure, ensuring scalability, transparency, and integration • Supervise and support the finance team, providing leadership, coaching, and accountability • Manage banking and investment accounts in accordance with strategy approved by the Board • Manage relationships and contracts with auditors and finance consultants, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state laws, nonprofit finance regulations, and audit requirements • Manage organizational risk, internal controls, and compliance systems Compliance Responsibilities • Partner with the Senior Director of Compliance to oversee compliance in local and state government funding contracts, supporting our child care, out of school time, family support, and workforce development programming • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Compliance and Contracts to manage monthly site monitoring and technical assistance for contract policies, procedures, and regulations • Support the compliance and contracts team to complete audits for child development program, including overseeing sampling audits using contract review instruments • Maintain partnerships with the public, non-profit organizations, federal, state and local government agencies that grant and monitor contracts People Operations Responsibilities • Partner with CEO and Senior Director of People Operations to ensure compliance with labor laws, nonprofit regulations, and organizational policies • Support the Senior Director of People Operations to design and deliver systems, policies, and practices for the end to end employee life cycle - including recruitment, onboarding, professional development, performance management, employee relations, and engagement • Partner with the Senior Director of People Operations and leadership to forecast staffing needs, build talent and leadership pipelines, and create succession plans • Ensure equitable compensation structures and competitive benefits and rewards package • Partner with Senior Director of People Operations to oversee key operational areas, including IT, independent contractors, risk management and insurance, etc. • Function as a strategic advisor, functional expert, and thought partner to the CEO, Board, and executive team regarding key People Operations strategies • Partner with the CEO and executive team to shape and execute organizational strategy QUALIFICATIONS: • Education: BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, Masters preferred • Professional certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) with demonstrate expertise • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. • Knowledge of non-profit compliance and contracts along with human resources expertise. • The ability to develop and execute strategies that align with the company's goals is critical. • Strong leadership skills managing teams, collaborating with other departments, and driving organizational success. • Familiarity with financial software (Sage Intacct), data analysis tools, and cloud-based systems. • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office and GoogleSuite applications • Ability to meet required state, federal, local, and CDC standards (including but not limited to fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, First Aid, CPR) • A deep commitment to aligning all program practices to FACES SF values, especially around equity, inclusion, and belonging • Strong passion for and a desire to humbly reflect, learn, and grow in pursuit of our mission • A sense of humor — we believe joy and justice go hand in hand!
