Summary: The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving revenue growth by promoting research, development, and manufacturing services across the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors. This role focuses on building strategic client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and managing the full sales lifecycle from lead qualification through contract execution. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background in pharmaceutical sciences combined with proven business development capability in a CDMO or related environment. What You’ll Do: Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities across pharmaceutical research, development, and manufacturing services. Meet with prospective and existing clients to present capabilities, assess needs, and advance opportunities to close. Manage the end-to-end sales process, including RFPs, proposals, pricing discussions, and contract negotiation. Collaborate with internal legal teams to negotiate confidentiality agreements, proposals, and technology agreements. Follow up on proposals to address scope, cost, timelines, and service-related questions. Coordinate with project management, operations, and quality teams to ensure clear communication and customer satisfaction. Proactively address project risks, changes, or delays to maintain strong client relationships. Represent the organization at trade shows, conferences, seminars, and industry networking events. Maintain accurate records of sales activity, pipeline status, and forecasts. Protect the confidentiality of proprietary company and client information. Experience You’ll Need: Bachelor’s degree in a pharmaceutical or scientific discipline (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field). Prior experience in pharmaceutical technical operations such as R&D, manufacturing, or laboratory environments. Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry terminology, services, and workflows. Demonstrated success in B2B sales or business development within the pharmaceutical or CDMO industry preferred. Willingness and ability to travel to client locations as required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort navigating complex client discussions. Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively in a remote environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. MS or PhD in a pharmaceutical discipline strongly preferred.
