Design and develop embedded analytics solutions using Tableau while ensuring robust data pipelines and performance optimization. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver innovative analytics solutions.
5+ years of hands-on Tableau development and BI engineering experience is required. Intermediate or advanced Salesforce/Tableau certification and advanced SQL skills are also necessary.
The Elevator Pitch We are seeking a Business Intelligence Developer with strong data engineering skills to join our Cloud Software team. This role goes beyond dashboard building. You will design and develop embedded analytics solutions using Tableau while ensuring robust data pipelines and performance optimization. You are a thinker and a tinker, and you will play a key role in helping Evolv and our customers deliver measurable value through data. Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? In the first 30 days, you will: Get hands-on experience with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server environments. Refactor and improve existing data visualizations (responsive design, SQL, calculations, filtering, parameters). Demonstrate best practices for developing with live vs. extract data sources, including row level security. Configure Tableau Server users, groups, permissions, and subscriptions. Monitor production extracts and resolve performance issues. Within 3 months, you will: Independently design and develop dashboards and data sources, using both established and innovative methodologies. Collaborate with the front-end team to enhance embedding functionality using the Tableau JavaScript API (focus on asynchronous filter/parameter updates). Conduct performance tuning for Tableau dashboards; use knowledge of Tableau calculations to detect bottlenecks and advise on moves to upstream data prep. Work with engineering and business teams to define requirements. Use Tableau Prep or similar ETL tools to optimize datasets. By the end of the first year, you will: Partner with business stakeholders to design production-ready Tableau content that drive decision-making. Become Evolv’s Tableau SME (Subject Matter Expert) at the developer level, leveraging Tableau APIs (JavaScript, REST) for embedded, automated, and interactive reporting solutions. Define and enforce content management and governance standards across the analytics environment. Contribute to Evolv’s broader cloud analytics strategy, including evaluating additional BI tools. The Work: What type of work will you be doing? Dashboard Design: Building, refactoring, and performance tuning of interactive dashboards for embedded analytics on the web and mobile app. Data Engineering: Utilizing strong SQL skills in Tableau to get data from AWS Aurora PostgreSQL database Working with APIs: Working with back-end and front-end developers to make full use of Tableau APIs (ie Tableau JavaScript API, Tableau REST API) in the analytics stack. Collaboration: Working cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business teams to define requirements and deliver solutions. Problem Solving: Researching, proposing and implementing innovative strategies to solve analytics problems. What Skills & Experience Do You Bring? 5+ years of hands-on Tableau development and BI engineering experience, with a track record of delivering enterprise-scale projects. Intermediate or advanced Salesforce/Tableau certification (such as Data Analyst, Consultant, Associate, Professional, or equivalent). Working knowledge (or better) of the Tableau JavaScript API, with experience designing content for embedding with Tableau and working with front-end team to integrate content. Advanced SQL skills for designing and optimizing data sources. Deep expertise in relational databases, row-level security, and Tableau Server administration. Experience working with AWS data stack and cloud-based application development. Bonus skills: Knowledge of data science modeling, experience with PostgreSQL, and proficiency in Python. What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure of the team? You will be joining the Cloud Software team and reporting directly to our BI Development Manager.
