About The Role The Backend Engineer will design and operate the services that power user-facing products, including APIs, asynchronous workflows, data access layers, and internal platform capabilities. The role will work primarily with TypeScript or Python, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud infrastructure running on AWS. This role matters because backend reliability directly shapes product speed, availability, and customer trust. The engineer will help define service boundaries, improve system performance, and ship durable APIs that support rapid product development at scale. The position is remote and based in Dallas, TX, with close collaboration across engineering, product, and design. Key Responsibilities • Design and implement reliable backend services and REST or GraphQL APIs using TypeScript, Python, or a comparable modern language • Build data models, queries, and migrations in PostgreSQL; apply Redis or equivalent caching strategies where latency and throughput require them • Develop asynchronous workflows and event-driven integrations using queues or streaming systems such as SQS, Kafka, or RabbitMQ • Deploy and operate production services on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines • Improve system performance, scalability, and fault tolerance through profiling, load testing, observability, and capacity planning • Write unit, integration, and contract tests; participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards • Partner with frontend, mobile, product, and infrastructure engineers to break down requirements and deliver complete product capabilities What We Are Looking For • 3–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial ownership of production backend systems • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, or a comparable backend language; sound understanding of object-oriented and functional design principles • Hands-on experience designing RESTful or GraphQL APIs, distributed services, authentication flows, and third-party integrations • Proficiency with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, transactions, and migrations • Experience deploying and supporting cloud-native applications on AWS or an equivalent cloud platform; familiarity with Docker and infrastructure-as-code • Practical knowledge of testing, observability, and production operations using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience; Bonus: experience with event-driven architecture, Kubernetes, Kafka, GraphQL federation, or high-traffic consumer products
