About the role To support our internal instructional design team by providing a dedicated resource for educational research related to instructing students with complex needs. The goal is to accelerate our research and analysis process, allowing the team to focus on direct application and design work. Role & Responsibilities The contract researcher will serve as a dedicated research and analysis resource. Their primary responsibilities include: Research & Compilation: Proactively find, review, and compile academic and empirical research related to our modified core curriculum and pedagogical goals, providing a list of citations. Synthesis & Summary: Synthesize complex research findings into clear, concise summaries and reports that directly inform decision-making. Consultation & Clarification: Serve as a subject-matter expert to whom our internal team can direct clarifying questions about research findings. Guiding Principles for Research & Analysis: The researcher will evaluate all sources based on the following factors: Learner Group Sample Size: The number of students included in the study. Instructor Sample Size: The number of teachers or instructors included in the study. Characteristics of the Learners: The classroom setting or characteristics of the learners for the focus of the study. While the research should try to focus on learners with complex needs and significant cognitive disabilities, at times research may need to include those with learning disabilities, special education or general education. Empirical Evidence: The presence of measurable, data-driven results. Publication Date: The recency of the research. Findings should be current (2015 or later) and relevant to modern educational practices. Geographic Location: Research conducted in the U.S. is preferred, as its findings are more likely to be applicable to the U.S. educational system. Verified/Peer-Reviewed: The article has been published in a reputable, peer-reviewed academic journal or professional source. Absence of Bias: The source is free from conflicts of interest and presents findings in a neutral, transparent manner. Other Guiding Principles: Adherence to research methodologies and principles outlined in project documentation. Use of AI Tools The use of AI is permitted exclusively for the summarization of well-vetted research articles. All AI-generated summaries must be cross-referenced with the original research article by the researcher to ensure accuracy and fidelity. Reporting & Interaction The researcher will use a provided template report to present their findings to the Instructional Designer based on predetermined milestones and work collaboratively as a resource.
