Define standards and narratives for solar-powered data centers, engage stakeholders, and author industry manifestos.
Proven experience in energy strategy, infrastructure, or data center operations, with strong stakeholder management and technical credibility in energy and infrastructure.
Director, Data Center Energy Strategy (AI Infrastructure) Location: Remote (US-Based) | Type: Full-Time | Reports to: CEO Overview AI progress is increasingly constrained by energy. Data centers are being built faster than the grid can support, yet solar and storage represent the fastest, most cost-effective path forward if deployed correctly. We are recruiting a Director of Data Center Energy Strategy for a leading philanthropic foundation. This is not a traditional lobbying or design role. Instead, you will act as a "Framework Architect" - translating technical realities into the standards and narratives that will make solar-powered data centers the global default for AI compute. What You’ll Do (The Mission) Define the Standard: Establish technical and operational frameworks for solar + storage, fire safety, and water usage in next-gen data centers. Drive the Narrative: Reframe solar as critical infrastructure for national security and economic competitiveness. Build the Coalition: Engage directly with Frontier AI labs, hyperscalers, and energy experts to move solar-first design from concept to pilot. Navigate Siting: Work with federal and local authorities to define permitting pathways for industrial and public land (e.g., BLM). Publish the Manifesto: Author and gain external validation for a "Data Center Manifesto" defining best practices for the industry. Who You Are A Systems Thinker: You can bridge the gap between compute requirements, energy markets, and land regulation. Technically Credible: You are fluent with engineers, policymakers, and executives alike. Experienced: You have a background in data centers, energy systems, or large-scale infrastructure. Outcomes-Oriented: You are pragmatic, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to build a playbook where one does not yet exist. Strong Communicator: You are an exceptional writer capable of turning complex data into clear, persuasive guidance. Requirements Proven experience in energy strategy, infrastructure development, or data center operations. Deep understanding of the AI infrastructure landscape and renewable energy integration. Strong track record in stakeholder management across government and private sectors. Ability to travel as required for site selection and stakeholder meetings. Compensation & Benefits Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience. Flexibility: 100% Remote (US-based). Impact: High-leverage executive role at the intersection of AI scaling and climate resilience. INDEQL
