Job Title: Principal Team Lead - Nuclear Radiation Location: Charlotte, NC, Remote/Home Based Job Summary and Description: EPRI is seeking a candidate with robust radiation protection technical and project management capabilities, particularly within existing and emerging commercial and research settings. The candidate can expect the following specific tasks and roles: Lead and facilitate industry meetings, including large-scale webcasts and in-person sessions, while delivering presentations to utility partners and member organizations. Success in this role requires strong presentation skills, a stakeholder-centric approach, and the ability to proactively identify challenges and develop effective solutions. Collaborate with utilities, industry groups (e.g., NEI, INPO, WANO ), and government agencies (including DOE, regulatory bodies, and international research organizations) to foster partnerships and align on research priorities and needs. Support the Chemistry, Radiation Safety, and Decommissioning Program Manager by overseeing day-to-day research and development activities in the Radiation Safety area. This includes managing an integrated portfolio designed to address both current and emerging fleet needs. Managing highly technical staff to meet EPRI and industry goals Maintain awareness of key industry events and emerging challenges, such as the erosion of foundational radiation protection practices and associated knowledge, and the need to assess dose impacts resulting from changes in source terms and evolving radiation fields. Leadership in technical business development of problem-solving projects from proposal through execution and technology transfer US and non-US travel to support above tasks and technology transfer with utilities. Ideal Candidate: Possess a strong technical background demonstrated through hands-on experience in radiation protection practices across both operating and emerging reactor designs. Expertise may include low-dose research, implementation of ALARA principles, and analysis of radioactive activity transport on station dose rates. Current (CHP) Certified Health Physicist certification. Familiarity with country specific dose related operational regulations and regulatory challenges Demonstrated familiarity with robotic systems and emerging technologies aimed at reducing radiation exposure and optimizing time spent in the field. Demonstrated understanding of current and emerging challenges faced by nuclear fleet members, translating insights into actionable information through well-crafted project proposals and strategic long-term planning. Results are delivered in a practical and applicable manner that supports member implementation. Key Responsibilities: Manages the development and application of products and services in those areas through EPRI staff, contractors, and departmental or cross-functional teams. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results. Plans and directs schedules and monitors budget/spending. Organizes the external and interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget. May conduct research directly in complex, high impact technical or scientific fields. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 10 - 15 or more years of research and development project and promotional experience demonstrating advanced skills in research, project management and technology transfer. Experience in performing and/or managing research activities. Experience in successful project management of proposal preparation, and marketing activities. Responsible for project(s) planning, budget, deliverables, and project success Creates scope, develops and manages one or more complex projects including promoting concepts with members. Experience in presenting project results to members and advisors. Demonstrated skill working in the collaborative enviroment with members and other stakeholders. Shows maturity of technical expertise and assumes responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives. Exercises good judgment, diligence, and attention to detail and demonstrate an aptitude for carrying out responsible technical assignments. Proven people management experience. Requires little supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The salary range for this position is $160,000 USD to $175,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location. This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan. This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
