Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in acute care, critical care, and patient assessment, with a focus on providing exceptional nursing care to diverse patient populations. This role involves utilizing advanced clinical skills, EMR/EHR systems, and evidence-based practices to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Experience with Epic, Cerner, and other medical documentation systems is highly desirable. The RN will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced hospital environment, including Level I and Level II Trauma Centers, emergency medicine, ICU, and post-acute care settings. Candidates with expertise in cardiac catheterization, ventilator management, IV infusion, aseptic technique, and infection control are preferred. This position offers an opportunity to work in a teaching hospital setting with a focus on trauma medicine, infectious disease care, geriatrics, pediatrics, and specialized units such as PICU and neonatal ventilator care. Responsibilities • Provide comprehensive nursing care including physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and patient assessment. • Administer medications via injections, IV infusions, and catheter care while adhering to HIPAA regulations and safety protocols. • Manage airway procedures including ventilator support and airway management techniques. • Perform diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory testing, specimen collection/processing, sonography, and medical imaging. • Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks. • Assist with complex procedures such as suturing, gastric lavage, spinal taps, ostomy care, and dermal fillers when applicable. • Coordinate discharge planning and case management for post-acute care or outpatient services. • Collaborate with physicians during emergency room procedures or trauma medicine cases at Level I or Level II Trauma Centers. • Maintain aseptic techniques during invasive procedures like catheterization or tube feeding management. • Educate patients and families on health coaching topics including nutrition, pain management, dementia or Alzheimer’s care, and working with people with disabilities or developmental disabilities. Qualifications • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. • Proven experience in critical care settings such as ICU or emergency medicine; trauma center experience preferred. • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or similar platforms. • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and infection control protocols. • Experience with various specialties such as cardiology (cardiac catheterization), nephrology (dialysis), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), behavioral health or hospice & palliative medicine is advantageous. • Ability to perform complex procedures including IV insertion/venipuncture, sterile processing techniques, ostomy care, and advanced diagnostics like sonography or gastroscopy if applicable. • Excellent communication skills for effective triage assessments and interdisciplinary collaboration. • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS are preferred. • Must demonstrate the ability to work in high-pressure environments while maintaining compassionate patient-centered care.
