Essential Functions: Sets and communicates enterprise-wide standards for Workers’ Compensation (WC) loss management, ensuring consistent practices across all regions. Directs the handling of WC claims and serves as the final authority on the most complex and high-value cases. Monitors and evaluates reserve development trends. Serves as the subject matter expert for Workers’ Compensation (WC) claims and coverage, providing authoritative guidance on complex claim scenarios and policy interpretation. Provides ongoing oversight of WC claim handling practices, implementing best practices to drive positive outcomes. Partners closely with the Claims Compliance and Audit Quality departments to review evaluation findings, develop actionable recommendations, and lead resolution efforts for identified concerns. Ensures appropriate training programs are developed and deployed to address performance gaps Oversees and monitors the workload and performance of the Workers’ Compensation Claims department and performs all duties expected of a people leader at EMC. Leads and contributes to initiatives that support claims strategies and financial goals, including complex and specialized claims projects. Participates in the Claims Committee and other relevant committees. Participates in and implements new claims programs, strategies, and initiatives to include process improvements. Serves as a corporate representative in depositions and trials related to WC matters. Works with Actuarial, Risk Control, Underwriting, and other departments to develop WC policies, support cross-functional initiatives, and manage budgets. Oversees reporting to reinsurance carriers and helps establish standards and procedures for investigating, evaluating, and resolving claims. Using data analytics tools, monitors trends, identifies opportunities, and develops targeted action plans that enhance claims efficiency, outcomes, and team performance. Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience Ten years of workers’ compensation experience in progressively responsible roles, including large loss claims Prior supervisory or managerial experience Insurance designations, such as AIC, CIC, AIM and CPCU preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Superior knowledge of the theory and practice of the WC claim function Advanced analytical abilities and demonstrated experience of good judgment with respect to property loss and coverage Excellent leadership qualities with the ability to motivate claims team members in the handling and disposition of WC claims Proven knowledge of property insurance contracts, medical terminology, as well as policy conditions and court procedures regarding disputes on compensability or coverage Advanced, current knowledge of the WC line, relevant court decisions, guidelines in the claims function, and policy changes and modifications Excellent knowledge of computers and claims systems Superior organizational and written and verbal communication skills Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $138,330 - $198,267 or $152,515 - $218,599 A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
