Overview We are designing the grid of the future! EPE is seeking a Senior Engineer – Owner’s Engineering (Distribution Design Reviewer) to join our growing Distribution Design and Grid Modernization team. This role will serve as a senior technical reviewer and subject matter expert responsible for ensuring that distribution design deliverables meet utility standards, design criteria, and program quality expectations. The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of overhead and underground distribution design, construction standards, and QA/QC processes for electric utilities. This position will play a key role in reviewing and providing feedback on third-party or internal designs, supporting client interface meetings, and helping shape design review procedures, checklists, and training for EPE’s Owner’s Engineering programs. Responsibilities How you can make an impact: Perform detailed technical design reviews for overhead and underground distribution projects, verifying compliance with client standards, NESC, and applicable codes. Review design drawings, load calculations, span/sag data, and field sketches for completeness, constructability, and adherence to design criteria. Provide written review comments and coordinate design corrections with utility and design contractors. Serve as a technical resource and mentor for junior engineers and reviewers on distribution design principles, standards, and QA/QC best practices. Interface directly with utility clients to clarify standards, resolve design issues, and participate in review meetings. Support the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), review checklists, and training materials for design review processes. Participate in continuous improvement of EPE’s design QA processes and contribute to lessons-learned feedback loops with clients. Assist with periodic program audits and standard updates to align with evolving client criteria and best practices. Contribute to process and documentation consistency across multi-utility Engineering programs. Qualifications Bring your passion, here's what’s needed: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Professional Engineer (PE) license (active or ability to obtain within 6 months). 7+ years of experience in electric utility distribution design (overhead and underground). Deep understanding of NESC, utility construction standards, and distribution system design principles (e.g., conductor sizing, pole loading, clearance requirements, grounding, and protective device placement). Proven experience with QA/QC or design review for distribution projects. Working proficiency in distribution design tools such as ArcFM, Autodesk Utility Design (AUD), Maximo, PoleForeman, SPIDAcalc, or similar. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write detailed review comments and summarize technical findings. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-client environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience serving in an Owner’s Engineer or QA Reviewer role for a utility or consulting firm. Familiarity with multiple utility design standards (e.g., PPL, Ameren, Duke, CenterPoint, Hydro One, etc.). Experience with field verification, photo, LiDAR, or GIS data integration. Demonstrated ability to develop or maintain design review checklists and training documentation. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, or PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE is a plus. Lead the change!
