Oversee maintenance and custodial staff to ensure safe, clean, and compliant school facilities, manage personnel and safety programs, coordinate inspections and repairs, and maintain operational budgets.
Degree or equivalent experience in management, experience in building and grounds maintenance, leadership skills, communication abilities, knowledge of safety regulations, and relevant certifications preferred.
TITLE: Building and Grounds Coordinator REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Operations QUALIFICATIONS: • Degree in Management or equivalent working experience. • Experience in the maintenance of buildings and grounds. • Must demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. • Possess oral and written communication skills. • Proven leadership, team-building, and managerial skills. • Ability to read and explain blueprints and basic operating instructions. • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations regarding personal safety and environmental protection. • Expert knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and processes. • Valid Certified Pool Operator's License preferred. • Valid Illinois/Indiana Driver's License. EVALUATION: • Conducted by Director of Finance and Operations in conjunction with Superintendent TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: • Salary and benefits determined by the Board of Directors • 12 months • IMRF Pension Plan, Large Contributions to Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance • 20 vacation days, 13 sick days, 3 personal days per 260 day school calendar year (July to June) PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Facilitate and direct the activities of the Maintenance/Custodial staff in order to maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence as to ensure students and staff are provided with a safe and clean environment in which to learn and work. • Examine school buildings regularly for needed repairs and maintenance. • Assume day to day responsibility for personnel related matters that include but are not limited to: • Assignments • Daily work schedules • Attendance • Coordinate technical training (i.e., HAZMAT) • Participate in annual employee evaluations • Conduct regular inspections to ensure consistency and quality of work being performed by Maintenance/Custodial staff. • Maintain a daily record of Material Safety Data Sheets for products used. • Make recommendations for supplies, work orders, order requests, or purchases requested to maintain the buildings. • Coordinate and oversee all inspections mandated by law. • Review and screen all work records and work requests prior to submission to the Business Office for final approval. • Oversee all district asbestos related work and upkeep of asbestos related records. • Coordinate, with the Principals, the master lock system and key distribution for the buildings. • Develop and coordinate in-service training programs for custodial and maintenance personnel. • Work with contractors and appropriate Administration to ensure completion of scheduled construction and renovation projects. • Provide status reports of routine inspections, construction projects, equipment repairs to the Director of Finance and Operations and the Superintendent. • Inventory and order materials as needed, develop specifications and recommendations for repair services supplies, and equipment for purchase in accordance with Board policy. • Immediately advise the Principal, Superintendent, and Director of Finance and Operations of any conditions that would either threaten personal safety or adversely affect the educational process. • Provide input for the preparation of the budget. • Insure safe and secure storage of supplies and equipment. • Supervise the safe operation of and maintain records for the swimming pool. • Supervise the periodic testing of electrical and mechanical components and controls to ensure their safe operation. • Establish a regular preventative maintenance program for the HVAC systems. • Develop schedule for summer cleaning of buildings. • Coordinate and supervise annual program moves in collaboration with Principals and Director of Finance & Operations. • Supervise and establish fire drills, tornado drills and crisis drills and maintain records as such. • Maintain an effective Crisis Plan. • Maintain all buildings in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). • Maintain contracts for services in building (i.e., Security systems, fire protection, inspections, pest management).
