JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/ Objective East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their community. ESH’s Older Adult Programs aligns with our mission by providing high quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships. Reporting to the Director of Melrose Older Adult Center, the Assistant Director will direct the day-to-day operation of the Melrose and Patterson Older Adults programs and reports to East Side House and the funder, the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA). The Assistant Director is responsible for fiscal management, supervision and staff development, and recordkeeping. As a member of the Older Adult team, the Assistant Director collaborates with the Director and Program Coordinator of Patterson Older Adult Center for planning and provision of services in the older adult centers. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Director of Melrose Older Adult Center, the Assistant Director will be responsible for but not limited to the following: Assist with the supervision of staff and provide direction with administrative and practical aspects of their work and special service activities. Assist with overseeing program staff through weekly supervision and periodical evaluation of staff and support staff to ensure program enhancements, development, commonalities, and uniqueness in all sites. Disseminate updated information to staff and participants regarding changes in the policies and procedures affecting rights and entitlements in a timely manner. Develop effective infrastructure and oversee department operations and procedures while ensuring compliance of internal agency standards and contractual performance standards. Establish and maintain relationships with other community agencies to meet community needs and improve service delivery. Develop opportunities to provide and receive feedback from staff, colleagues, business partners, and external stakeholders. Collaborate with the Director to interview, hire and onboard and manage staff performance through supervision, goals setting, coaching, observations and feedback, annual performance appraisals and training. In collaboration with Senior Director, conduct on-going evaluation of service delivery. Assist the agency in evaluation of the program in policy development. Direct, coordinate and oversee fundraising activities for older adult programs. Coordinate/motivate participation in center activities and congregated lunch. Adhere to contractual obligations and compliance updates dictated by multiple government and private funding sources to maintain contract integrity and performance. Complete monthly Kitchen Inventory Assist with preparation of the DFTA Program and Nutrition assessments/CAP and DOH Related tasks as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications To perform this position successfully, the Assistant Director must be able to fulfill all the elements of the job description to the highest standard and be able to work well with colleagues in a high energy and collaborative work environment. Additional qualifications include: Education / Experience Bachelors’ degree preferred with at least two years’ experience in human services, or Associate degree with three years of experience; or High School Diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and assess priorities and actions. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Thorough understanding of DFTA policies and procedures. Have an understanding of the older adult population with the ability to communicate effectively with them in a caring non-prejudice manner. Effective communication skills, including strong public speaking, writing, and organizational skills. Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred) a plus Exhibits high integrity and demonstrates the ability to be valued and respected by the community, professionals, civic leaders, corporations, foundations, and government officials. Physical Demands This role may involve occasional lifting or moving of items up to 50 pounds and routine use of standard office equipment. Expected Work Schedule The work schedule expected for this position is: Monday through Friday and occasional weekends and holidays. Days and hours of work will range within and to cover the shift of operations from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Flexible work schedule is required for Summer Cooling center days/hours, as aligned to the needs of the program/service. The schedule may be adjusted based on ESH’s operational needs, with notice provided whenever possible.
