Full Description

Senior Integration Engineer, Professional Services ABOUT DRFIRST For 25 years, DrFirst has empowered providers and patients to achieve better health through intelligent medication management. We improve healthcare workflows and help patients start and stay on therapy with end-to-end solutions that enhance prescription access, affordability, and adherence. Our solutions help 100 million patients a year and are used by more than 420,000 prescribers, 71,000 pharmacies, 270 EHRs and health information systems, and over 2,000 hospitals in the U.S. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a successful Healthcare IT company experiencing significant growth. Here you’ll get to work with some of the smartest and most interesting people around, solving unique and complex challenges in healthcare on a scale matched by few companies. If you get excited about stretching yourself in new ways, developing yourself to your fullest potential, and care about working with smart colleagues, we want to talk to you! POSITION OVERVIEW DrFirst seeks a Senior Integration Engineer to join our Professional Services integration engineering team. You will build and support vendor and customer integrations across payers, hospitals, health systems, and EMR/EHR platforms. You will help design the next generation of how healthcare organizations connect with our medication management solutions, and you will turn month long implementations into streamlined experiences for customers and internal teams. A core part of this role supports our electronic prior authorization (ePA) platform through direct payer integrations. You will scale payer connectivity and ePA workflows, and you will own both the technical execution and the business relationships with payer partners. You will partner with Product to turn complex payer workflows into reliable, repeatable integration capabilities, and you will build the processes and SOPs our team needs as payer connectivity grows. You will also build self service tools for tech forward customers and automation to move integrations faster, all while you maintain enterprise grade security and compliance. Your work shapes how quickly customers go live and how reliably the healthcare professionals who use our solutions get what they need. WHO WILL LOVE THIS JOB * Systems Thinker: You look past individual integrations and build repeatable solutions to make every future implementation easier. * Developer Experience Champion: You build tools and platforms to make complex tasks simple, so other engineers spend their time on high value problems instead of repetitive implementation work. * Healthcare Integration Expert: You understand EMR/EHR, payer, and prior authorization ecosystems, and you thrive on connecting disparate systems to improve patient outcomes. * Automation Architect: If a task happens more than twice, you automate the task. You design systems to learn, adapt, and improve over time. * Quality Engineering Leader: You embed testing, monitoring, and compliance into every stage of the development lifecycle. Speed never comes at the expense of reliability or security. * Trusted Partner: You lead technical conversations with customers, vendors, and payers with confidence, and you turn their requirements into clear plans while you protect the customer experience. WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON * Customer and Vendor Integrations: Design, build, and support integrations with hospitals, health systems, and EMR/EHR vendors. Translate requirements into reliable interfaces and troubleshoot issues across customer environments and internal platforms. * Payer Integrations: Design, build, and support direct payer integrations for our ePA platform with national and regional payers such as UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Handle payer specific rules, request and response workflows, and exception handling. Troubleshoot complex ePA issues and work with internal teams to improve authorization success rates and turnaround times. * Payer Partnerships: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for payer partners. Lead onboarding and ongoing integration reviews. Work with Product to shape scalable payer integration capabilities, and document repeatable onboarding processes as payer connectivity grows. * Automation and Tooling: Build automation, APIs, and self service tools to speed integration build, testing, and certification for our team and for tech forward customers. * Quality and Compliance: Build testing and monitoring into every integration to meet HIPAA and HITECH requirements and perform reliably in production. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED * Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. * Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in healthcare integration engineering. * Healthcare Integration Expertise: Deep understanding of healthcare data standards (HL7 v2, HL7 FHIR, X12 EDI) and interoperability challenges, with hands on experience building production integrations with payers, hospitals, health systems, and/or EMR/EHR platforms. * Payer and ePA Knowledge: Working knowledge of payer system architectures and electronic prior authorization standards and workflows, such as NCPDP SCRIPT ePA, X12 278, and HL7 FHIR Da Vinci PAS. * Multi Language Proficiency: Experience with languages common in healthcare technology stacks, including Java, C#, Python, and JavaScript/Node.js, plus experience with EMR/EHR specific frameworks and integration patterns. * Automation and Testing: Experience building automated testing and scripting for integrations, with working familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms (AWS). * Communication: Strong communication skills and experience leading technical discussions with customers, vendors, or payers and seeing integrations through to go live. PREFERRED * Experience with real time data streaming, event driven architectures, and microservices patterns in healthcare environments. * Exposure to infrastructure as code and deployment automation. * A demonstrated habit of using AI tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude, Codex, or similar) to accelerate development and improve code quality, with a strong grasp of prompt engineering and experience building AI assisted tooling or agentic workflows. * Knowledge of healthcare interoperability initiatives (TEFCA, CMS Interoperability Rule, 21st Century Cures Act). * Experience with Spring Boot or similar enterprise frameworks. * Experience with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform, or any container orchestrator and cloud platform. * Experience with Domain Driven Design (DDD) concepts in software architecture and development. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * 95%+ of time working at a desk or on the phone. * Less than 5% travel to industry vendor events for technical collaboration and the annual DrFirst team onsite. #LI-GF1 #LI-Remote BENEFITS * Competitive compensation, with a base salary of $140,000 to $160,000 (Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience) * Eligible for a Discretionary Performance-based bonus * Medical, dental, and vision insurance * 401K eligible after 3 months of employment, with 50% company match up to first 5% of salary contributed to the plan with a 3-year vesting schedule * HSA for eligible employees enrolled in the HDHP, with a generous company contribution up to $500 for individual coverage and $1000 for family coverage per year * 100% company paid short and long-term disability, AD&D, and group life insurance * Accrued annual paid time off (PTO) of 18 days for the first 3 years of service, increasing thereafter and 7 paid holiday days * Employee Assistance Program * Continuing Education funds up to $1500 annually for eligible programs after 1 year of service * Voluntary benefits including FSA, Hospital indemnity, Accident and Critical Illness insurances DrFirst is committed to being a Remote-First company, creating a dynamic and flexible workplace where everyone thrives, no matter where they log in from.
