Job Purpose: We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to assist with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Grants Management System (NexSys), a crucial platform responsible for managing over 2 billion dollars in state educational payments. This role will serve as the liaison between the business client and technical teams, ensuring smooth communication and the effective gathering of requirements for operational support and project initiatives. As a senior member of the team, you will lead business analysts, manage requirements, and ensure that all tasks are aligned with business objectives. Lead meetings with the technical team and business clients to gather, document, and refine requirements for web applications. Maintain a backlog of work items in Azure DevOps and ensure all items are prioritized and clearly defined. Act as the liaison between the development team and the business client, ensuring requirements are fully understood and communicated. Project Management & Communication: Manage project tasks, timelines, and communication between the business product owner and development team throughout the Change Management lifecycle. Track sprints and ticket progress in Azure DevOps, ensuring that the team is adhering to project deadlines and milestones. Provide regular updates to management, including project status reports and resource demand projections. Agile/Waterfall Methodology: Operate in a hybrid (Agile/Waterfall) environment and actively manage requirements, change requests, and testing needs. Facilitate requirement sessions independently, ensuring that both business and technical resources are aligned. Ensure adherence to department change management policies and maintain comprehensive documentation on the project SharePoint site. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with team members, management, and business partners to continuously improve processes and ensure high-quality outcomes. Assist with training and information sessions, communicating project goals and status to various stakeholders. Act as a liaison with State of Michigan auditors to ensure compliance and transparency. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field. Experience: 5+ years of experience gathering and documenting business requirements for software development projects. 5+ years of experience in a business analyst role, supporting software development projects. 5+ years of experience leading meetings, conducting training and information sessions, and communicating with a variety of stakeholders. 2+ years of experience acting as a liaison between development teams and business clients. 1+ year of experience working with Azure DevOps, including creating user stories and managing queries. 3+ years of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Nice to Have: Experience with Federal, State, or Local grant management systems (1+ year). Experience with Power Platform services, including Power BI and Power Automate (6+ months).
