We are a startup at the intersection of SaaS, eCommerce, and health tech—offering DNA testing kits, secure DNA data storage, and a growing marketplace of reports and proprietary AI tools that help people understand their genetic data. We’ve grown quickly and are now looking for a full-time Product Manager to bring structure to our roadmap and help us scale with purpose. The Role We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join the team behind SequencingAI — our advanced chat-based experience that delivers personalized insights and recommendations based on a user’s genetic data. You will be building high-performance services and infrastructure that power our AI-driven features, all tailored using the latest research and our proprietary One Genome technology. In this role, you will support the backend for our mobile native apps, collaborating closely with the lead backend engineer responsible for our AI infrastructure. You will also take co-ownership of new systems and features — from design and implementation to deployment and optimization. We seek someone who thrives on autonomy but values close collaboration when it counts. Above all, you are customer-obsessed and quality-driven. What You'll Do • Design, build, and maintain performant backend services in TypeScript. • Support and optimize backend systems for mobile native applications. • Integrate and manage services like PostgreSQL, MySQL, AWS SQS, and Centrifugo. • Work with OpenAI APIs and other AI frameworks to build intelligent, personalized user experiences. • Collaborate with the lead AI backend engineer to shape and evolve our AI infrastructure. • Ensure high system reliability, security, and observability across services. • Own and drive end-to-end feature development with a strong eye on user experience. • Champion clean code, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. What We’re Looking For • 5+ years of backend development experience. • Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript. • Experience with functional programming. • Deep experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and service-based architectures. • Strong background integrating with AI tools, especially OpenAI. • Experience supporting and scaling native mobile app backends. • Proven ability to work independently while closely collaborating with key teammates. • Passion for building systems that deliver exceptional customer experiences. • Strong debugging, testing, and performance-tuning skills. Bonus Points if You Have: • Experience with agentic AI frameworks like LangGraph. • Experience with AWS Bedrock, Google AI, DeepSeek (R1 model preferred). • Familiarity with genomics, health data, or personalization systems. • Prior work on chatbots or conversational interfaces. • Startup or fast-paced environment experience. • Familiarity with Rust.
