Statewide RIDE Team Coordinator Project The Maine Chiefs of Police Association (MCOPA), partnered with Dirigo Safety, is seeking a Statewide RIDE Team Coordinator whose role is to increase participation from law enforcement agencies across the State of Maine in RIDE (Regional Impaired Driving Enforcement) initiatives. The Coordinator will lead the planning, organization, and execution of high-visibility enforcement efforts, including saturation patrols and publicized sobriety checkpoints, aimed at deterring impaired driving by increasing the perceived risk of arrest statewide. This position is funded by a grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety and plays a critical role in strengthening statewide collaboration, coordinating regional enforcement efforts, supporting agencies in effective implementation and reporting of RIDE activities, and ensuring program accountability and measurable outcomes. This is a remote within the State of Maine contract. This is also a 32-hour per week position as a 1099 independent contractor. The initial project contract term runs from March 15, 2026, through September 30, 2026, with the intention of renewing the agreement upon completion of the initial term. Primary Responsibilities Program Coordination & Implementation • Coordinate and promote statewide RIDE details, including high-visibility saturation patrols and publicized sobriety checkpoints. • Work with regional law enforcement leaders to determine strategic patrol locations. • Ensure participating agencies have adequate staffing, supervisory oversight, and effective communication plans. • Monitor and support timely execution of RIDE events to ensure compliance and effectiveness. • Schedule for a minimum of 3 RIDE events during summer of 2026 Law Enforcement Collaboration • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with municipal, county, and state law enforcement agencies across Maine. • Communicate available enforcement dates and coordinate agency participation in RIDE details. • Facilitate functional interagency partnerships and collaboration to include assisting with the development of effective mutual aid agreements as needed and ensuring officers have adequate authority to work in jurisdictions outside their home agency. • Support agencies in organizing regional RIDE events. Including dispatch support and logistics coordination as well as press releases to publicize enforcement efforts Statewide Partnership Development • Collaborate with the MCOPA through its Executive Director. • Coordinate with the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, including: Traffic safety Resource Prosecutors, Law Enforcement Liaisons, Grant coordinators • Work with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s designated Drug Recognition Expert statewide coordinator. • Coordinate with the Maine State Police’s Impaired Driving Coordinator. Grant Administration & Organizational Responsibilities The Statewide RIDE Coordinator will assist MCOPA with grant management and organizational oversight responsibilities, including: • Assisting with quarterly grant submissions and grant summary close-out documents. • Coordinating with Maine Highway Safety to develop grant applications and/or submit proposals for RFP opportunities on behalf of MCOPA. • Utilizing and analyze the Maine Crash Query Tool to evaluate the effectiveness of RIDE details. • Supporting evaluation of program success by reviewing crash data and assessing performance of assigned duties. • Assessment of how effectively the coordinator fulfills assigned duties and program objectives. Secondary Responsibilities Training, Instruction & Public Engagement • Be available to assist with instructing impaired driving classes throughout Maine. • Coordinate with the Maine Impaired Driving Reduction Trooper. • Conduct speaking engagements related to impaired driving enforcement and prevention. • Participate in relevant regional and statewide training courses and meetings with Maine law enforcement agencies. • Maintain familiarity with the locations and availability of officers proficient in: NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), Drug Recognition Experts (DRE), Forensic Phlebotomists Qualifications • Experience in law enforcement, traffic safety, public safety administration, or a related field preferred. • Strong knowledge of impaired driving enforcement strategies and high-visibility enforcement programs. • Familiarity with NHTSA SFST, ARIDE, and DRE programs. • Experience with grant writing, reporting, and administrative oversight preferred. • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. • Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships across multiple agencies. • Ability to travel statewide within Maine as required. Compensation and Benefits • $40 per hour max of 32 hours a week • Mileage Reimbursement: (outside of commute to Auburn office). Mileage is reimbursed according to the Maine State Travel Policy at .56 cents a mile: https://www.maine.gov/osc/travel/mileage-other-info. • Per Diem Rates for meals and lodging: https://www.gsa.gov/travel/plan-book/per-diem-rates. • Remote position with option to work from Dirigo Safety headquarters in Auburn, ME, or Bureau of Highway Safety headquarters in Augusta, ME.
