Full Description

About Direct Meds Direct Meds is a fast-growing healthtech company transforming pharmacy and patient services at scale. Following strategic acquisitions and modernization efforts, we are rebuilding our infrastructure to support personalized, compliant, and efficient care delivery. Our current focus is on architecting a modular AI agent framework that supports clinical workflows, billing automation, fulfillment coordination, and customer support, with governance, visibility, and integration at its core. Role Overview As a Senior Data & Cloud Engineer, you will help design and implement the backbone of our hybrid, Azure-first but multi-cloud-enabled architecture. You will join an engineering team driving the buildout of our internal agent framework and systems modernization initiative. This is a hands-on, systems-focused role where they lead critical data flows, integrations, and infrastructure decisions that connect siloed systems (billing, clinical, CRM, fulfillment) into orchestrated, HIPAA-compliant pipelines and services. The Senior Data & Cloud Engineer will work directly with our Director of AI and CTO to ensure every component from data lakes to vector DBs runs reliably, scales intelligently, and respects patient privacy. Responsibilities • Architect and engineer the orchestration layer: Build governance, event routing, and data‑bus integrations for AI agents, grounded in solid data engineering principles. • Deliver modular agent logic: Integrate Zoho, internal DBs, EMRs, and patient/provider portals. • Own the Rules Engine: Maintain JSON/YAML‑driven policies for global and BU‑specific compliance. • Enforce safety guardrails: Define escalation paths, fallback handling, and PHI protections. • Co‑lead rollouts: Partner with the Director of AI on pilots (DoseCheck, SubLogic) and take them into full production. • Embed observability: Implement logging, audit trails, token usage, and agent registries. • Drive governance adoption: Transition teams from ad‑hoc bots to orchestrated, compliant workflows. • Enable discovery & onboarding: Conduct agent audits, stakeholder interviews, and data normalization efforts. • Mentor contractors: Guide junior talent, review code, and ensure knowledge transfer. • Ship production code: Contribute high‑quality Python/Laravel services end‑to‑end. Requirements/Technical Skills • Grounded in data engineering: Ability to design and maintain pipelines, normalized data models, and multi‑source integrations at scale. • Backend engineering expertise: Strong in Python (required) plus PHP/Laravel and TypeScript/JavaScript (nice‑to‑have). • Orchestration frameworks: Experience with Celery, Temporal, Airflow, Kafka/EventBridge. • SQL mastery: Build and maintain normalized, governed data models. • Rule engines and dynamic configs: Comfortable with JSON/YAML policy systems. • API & messaging integration: REST, GraphQL, webhooks, and message queues. • Compliance‑grade logging: Familiar with audit trails, monitoring, and HIPAA security standards. • Azure cloud stack: Functions, Event Grid, ML, API Management (AWS/GCP knowledge is a plus). • LLM orchestration: Experience with prompt pipelines and AI agent flows. • Clinical systems integration: EHR, pharmacy platforms, and hybrid AI‑human escalation logic. • Production mindset: Ability to ship code, own systems, and debug live environments. Why This Role Matters? This is a builder’s role shaping the backbone of an AI-native operating model designed for scale, safety, and real-world complexity. You won’t be prototyping in isolation. You will engineer live systems that power pharmacy operations, patient care, and clinical compliance. Expect ownership, visibility, and the opportunity to build systems that drive operational clarity, eliminate friction, and protect what matters most: people, outcomes, and data. This is a full-time, 100% remote position with competitive benefits and direct healthcare impact. Compensation: $140k - 180k base + benefits, DOE. Flexible for the right candidate. To Apply: Send your resume and a brief cover letter explaining your interest in healthcare AI and systems integration to: careers-ai@directmeds.com Applications reviewed on a rolling basis. Early outreach is encouraged.
