Full Description

Are you a reporter able to dig into an industry, understand what makes it tick, land exclusive interviews with leaders, and break news? Are you excited to be part of a news organization that has a social impact focus and an open, teamwork-based culture? Read on. Maybe you already have a strong background in global development. Or maybe you just have a passion for global issues and a desire to learn more about what makes the aid industry tick. Either way, you’ve got the hunger and the hustle to get inside global development. You have a track record of sharp reporting, strong networking skills, and insightful interviews. You can dig into a beat and explore the relevant decisions and the leaders who make them inside organizations, whether it’s an INGO, social enterprise, government agency, or philanthropic foundation. And you understand and love what industry reporting is all about — finding the nuggets others might find boring and showing your audience why they matter. You thrive in an environment where you’re supported by a team and able to work both independently and collaboratively with reporters whose beats overlap yours. You know how to reach your audience directly in your own voice and how to make news about new projects, leadership transitions, and organizational mergers super compelling to that audience. Job Location: Global remote position What you’ll do here Devex is seeking a global development correspondent who will cover the inside story of the industry — from big new projects and initiatives, to leadership transitions and layoffs, to mergers and fundraising innovations — and help our audience of professionals understand what’s happening, why it matters, and who’s driving the change. You’ll be writing exclusive stories, as well as a mixture of quick-hit news pieces, long-form features, and newsletters that are part of our stable of successful email products. You’ll come to weekly editorial meetings with smart, timely pitches, brief other Devex reporters on key issues when needed, and be able to talk about these issues comfortably during panels and webinars. Your first year will look a little bit like this… In your first 90 days, you’ll get up to speed on key issues in your beat and cultivate sources inside relevant organizations. You’ll stay on top of breaking news, secure exclusive interviews with leaders, and begin to identify trends that could become bigger-picture features. You’ll also develop a good understanding of your role within the wider Devex news team and work on stories collaboratively with other reporters, the production and multimedia team, and the social media engagement team. After your first year, you’ll have a strong grasp of development news and institutions. You’ll have a robust network of sources, whether it’s an NGO CEO, philanthropic donor, or government official. You’ll have cultivated these sources to deliver a steady stream of compelling reporting from unique angles, becoming a respected voice in the sector. You’ll also work to help hit our KPIs, which include increasing the number of Pro paid subscribers and monthly active users online. You’ll be open to feedback during regular performance reviews. And your reporting will help grow Devex’s influence, readership, and subscriber base — while shaping conversations in the development community. Required Qualifications Here are the requirements we’re looking for in the role… Experience as a beat reporter • A proven track record of breaking stories and delivering original reporting. A strong passion for global development, with the curiosity to dig into how the industry works • A network of contacts — or the drive to build one quickly • Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage directly with readers • Native level of English with excellent written English. • A bachelor’s degree Nice-to-haves Besides the basics, here’s what we’d love to see… • Familiarity with business and finance reporting • Experience working at a well-respected media organization • Comfortable moderating panels and webinars This role is a remote position and the salary range will be based on the candidate’s location and market rates to align with Devex’s global compensation philosophy. If selected for an interview, we can share the compensation range specific to your geographic area. About the Organization At Devex, our vision is to do more good for more people in the global development community. We’re a media platform that connects 1+ million development professionals with news, jobs, content series, events, and funding. We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability. Ready to get started? Apply now!
